Melanin Haircare was a game changer for me. It works great. I literally haven’t used anything else in my hair besides diy areyuvedic oils, sprays and deep conditioners. I really was amazed that I had found products that checked all the boxes that I could use exclusively and not worry about buying or using anything else. I have given away most everything else I was using and stocked up on the shampoo and conditioner for me and my little.

I had similar hair to yours and about the same length. I really love my new hair style it’s very manageable. If I get tired of the short hairstyle I’m not worried because my hair grows like grass. Thank you for saying that about natural hair! I don't think it is any harder to take care of our natural hair than relaxed hair. In fact, if anything, it is easier because you don't have to worry about the harsh chemicals, etc. The issue is that people have to learn to take care of their own texture. If you have never done it, there is a learning curve and you cannot treat our natural hair like relaxed hair because it is different. I love my curls!

To help with consistency, I’d recommend making the water and refrigerating it without the rice. Refrigerating the water without the rice will preserve it without continuing the fermenting process. It can be refrigerated for up to one week.

Thank you, people think you have to use heat for most styles. Even hairdressers will tell you "you should blowdry it so you won't get tangles, it lasts longer" for styles you want. What's the point of being natural if you have to change the state of your natural hair EACH time before a style? That didn't make sense to me. So, I just did the styles on my own, no heat. When I first wore extensions, I didn't blow dry my hair. I use heat usually every 18-24 months. I trim it in any state, because you can see split ends even when it's naturally kinky coily curly.

Thanks for saying natural hair should not be difficult. I think that's just another stereotype. I have so many friends who say that they don't want to go natural because it will be so difficult and so time-consuming. We all know that for years many products were not made for textured hair. Luckily we discovered DIYs. Why would God give us something that's difficult to work with? We were just robbed of the ability to learn how to manage our hair. Having gotten my first relaxer when I was in my twenties and having gone natural about 5 years ago, I just thought it was horrible trying to adjust to caring for my hair. I'm going to have to give up something in my life in order to take care of my hair and then I thought what did you do for 20-something years of your life? Wit I was never late for school or for work and I didn't wear wigs or head wraps for protective styles so somehow it worked back then.
