The farmer I work part time for driving seed truck had me drive him to pick up a John Deere combine ( a 9539, I think) he just bought used. He - with the help of his grandson - drove it 120 miles from north of Portland to his farm near Shedd, Oregon, without a header. Maybe next summer I will graduate to combine driving but I enjoy running the trucks from the field to the cleaner/seed warehouse. We just got the last of the clover seed to the cleaner last week.

What happened to the CA rice combines from Sweco in Sutter? Back in the old days, we at Gleaner had Sweco build our tracks and modify our grain heads to install a fore and aft draper for the longer CA rice. Now I see they only sell bank outs. Of course the rubber tracks sure beat the clunky steel tracks I see on your JD.

@Bagndux885 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you have answered this question before. But how much slower do you have to harvest lazy rice compared to rice that is not lazy lol.
@Ricefarmingtv5 жыл бұрын
The quick answer is that the speed is cut in half in down, rice. But their are variables...there are degrees to the laziness. If it’s wavy that’s not too bad. If it’s down flat and the rice is green...that’s bad. Also depending on your pass direction in the combine. The rice lays down uniformly, the same direction. So when you’re cutting with the rice leaning into the header you can go faster. You must go slower if the rice is leaning parallel, across, the face of the header. That’s hard to grab quickly. Great question, Per Person! Thanks. -M.

Those fields looked heavy ,my guess is 4.2 ton per hectare????
@dennisspencer11135 жыл бұрын
Calculating rice yield in California is strange. It's done in "sacks per acre" i.e. cwt (hundred weight per acre). 70-80 "sacks" or 7,000 to 8,000 lbs of rice per acre is a good crop. Not a record but "good". A hectare is 2.471 acres so a good crop is 17,297 to 19768 lbs of rice per hectare. Since you use hectares I assume that you are also using long tons so that works out to 7.85 to 8.96 long tons per hectare. That's for paddy rice. It's artificially dried after harvest but no point in going into that process. Hope that helped. Got a little dyslexic and used 2,204 lbs instead of 2,240 lbs. for the short/long ton conversion.
