Ironically when flair and steamboat fought each other - the gimmick was Flair was the party guy while steamboat was the family man. Steamboat, at the time, actually has been divorced more times than flair.

There was certainly a time when Ric Flair was the top heel in all of pro wrestling. I think that the chronic pain from the plane crash in 1975, (added to all of the bumps he'd taken in the ring) began to take it's toll on him in the early 1990s. From there, he began to decline. That being said, given his age, and his injuries, Flair had an amazing amount of vigor from the early 1990s to the late 20-teens.

Unfortunately, Ricky Steamboat was more or less "black-balled" by Vince McMahon, after he was given his release in 1987, to spend time with his wife and newborn son, Richie. Once Ricky lost his spot in the WWF, he never got it back. 4 years later, Steamboat was brought back into the WWF as "The Dragon", a simple "card filler" position on the roster. He deserved a lot better treatment than that.

The professional Wrestling business is not meant for the family man. Working between 200 - 300 days of the year and traveling on a consistent basis will destroy the family household. Family comes first. You can understand why his wife did what she did. Ricky Steamboat has to consider them first. If Ricky Steamboat were to wrestle locally then maybe that would have been a better option for him to remain in the wrestling business without compromising not being with his family. Since he would've been able to spend more time with them more often than not..That's why you hear why some of these Wrestlers are more dysfunctional and their families than the average family are.. Their wives and children are the ones who pay the ultimate sacrifice for the glory of these wrestlers career. Which shouldn't be the case. No career is worth destroying the family household. Financial support alone is not enough. You have to be a good husband, and father as well. By spending times with your family at home. Not traveling 300xs a year without barely seeing them and thinking that's OK. Because it's not. Maybe a few times will be ok. But not in excessiveness. Most of these Wrestlers are miserable and even suicidal because of that. That's not healthy at all. Smh..😮

Or they could just do the same as HHH who married the wrestling promotion's daughter or any woman who works for wrestling and is constantly on tour with them so that they would not be away from each other that much.
@RealDaveTalk
@RealDaveTalk 8 ай бұрын
Being in the wrestling business, this can be tough, but also it can destroy your family because you don’t see your wife and kids a lot. As result, many wrestlers end up getting divorced from their wives and also have an impact on their children because their father or mothers are never around them. I think smaller promotions like AEW, NWA, or Imapct don’t do house shows unlike the WWE does and the rest of those organizations will get to spend time with their families.

Ricky's wife seemed pretty controling and possessive as well. The whole angle had good moments but I think the whole family guy vs party man thing did not work. I would not be shocked if it was cause of her wanting to be in the limelights. It should only have been about Flair vs Steamboat and that's it. Ricky was loved cause he was cool, guys liked him cause he was like a ninja. The family man thing made him very uncool. He had his child dressed as a dragon for crying out loud. This was the NWA audience, not the WWF audience. So in a lot towns he was booed. That was the big issue where the wrestling was great but it lacked in the booking to make it a real masterpiece. I know it's rare but wrestling is great when both the booking and wrestling are just as great.

I met Bonnie at Maple Leaf Gardens. Someone came up to me and said, "that's Ricky Steamboat's wife". I didn't believe it so I confronted her. She was sitting in the gold seats just a few rows from ring side. At this point there were a few people around her and I distinctly remember her showing either me or the person net to me a picture she had in her wallet. Not sure if that pic was Ricky but she was trying to prove to us that she was indeed his wife. I thought was she nice and polite.

Hey, you wrestle 1 hour matches, 9 times a week for 15 straight years and then wrestle another 30 years at almost that rate and you will sound like that also. Also he has been married 5 times and had 4 kids and kept them all up for many years, plus travel, work out and party all night and still had the energy to kick 5 girls out of bed every morning. WOW! And at the end of the day go Wooooooo. Let’s see you try that for just 1 year and then get back on here and let’s see how you talk and feel then, hotshot. Wooooo.

Ricky Steamboat’s wife might have cost him the intercontinental belt wanting to spend time with his newborn son but it also won him the world heavyweight championship being a family man versus playboy nature boy Ric Flair

@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Maybe it should have led to a Steamboat heel turn. Steamboat could cut a promo saying that the fans are all jealous because they have dysfunctional families. A heel Steamboat could have been interesting.

@@dhenderson1810 Yea but again do we want heel "family man" Steamboat or heel ninja Steamboat where he would really hurt guys with his martial arts? Family man sucks any ways we look at it lol

@@johnnyskinwalker4095 But because the family man gimmick was booed, it would give him more heel heat and he could get booed out of buildings. It could have made him a main eventer.
