Sure, but that wasn't the deciding factor here. He asked for a huge contract, that neither of the Washington teams felt comfortable with for a first time head coach, and knows that he has a good chance to win with the Lions next season and if he does teams will be willing to pay his price once he has a ring.

It's because of Johnson's ineptness that Detroit could only muster a garbage touchdown at the end of the NFC title game, but for all intents and purposes he was shutout in the second half, which is what was required for Detroit to lose the game. @@AdamB34no, whenever Dan Campbell cost us a game last year against Minnesota we blamed him and he took ownership, but when the plays called created an opportunity for the players that they(the players) themselves mustered then yes it’s on the players. People are waiting patiently for their moment to trash Dan Campbell but they’re gonna have to keep waiting. Funny how when Dan Campbell’s risky playcalling pays off everyone is silent but the second a risky call fails because the execution was lousy, then people are ready to bury him in criticism. Lol these haters need a new hobby, put that energy towards something productive because coming after Dan Campbell is not going to change how we see him in Detroit, but if you need to vent toxically go for it, it’s been nothing but empty words and opinions anyways, neither of which matter.

Man whatever, if you one of them ones you’re going to get it done. Demeco was a coordinator for only 2 years, Bobby 1st time as OC it can be done. Johnathan Gannon hired after 2 years. He's apart of a winning team under one of the most admired head coaches in the league. Him and his players are comfortable with each other and know they can do great things with another year under their belts. All he has to worry about is the offense and gets paid like a head coach. Maybe not as much as a head coach but close to it I'm sure. Some guys just value their family life and what's working over a few extra bucks and moving across the country for the millionth time. Plus if he wins a ring, he can demand whatever price he wants.

My understanding is the meeting with WASH never happened. They were in the air on their way to meet with him and AG when Ben contacted them to decline the interview. No offer was made or turned down. I believe they still met with AG. Detroit beat reporters also wrote that Lion's mgmt did not adjust Ben's contract in any way to coerce him to stay. So hard as it may be to believe it appears that Ben is just loyal to the Lions.

I’ve been telling everyone since Sunday that he wasn’t leaving because he has unfinished business. He’s so close to the Super Bowl. Last year they missed the playoffs and this year was minutes away from the Super Bowl. He’s shooting for the Super Bowl next year.

Ben Johnson is what I would describe as a person who's not ready to leave until he has help set a solid foundation in Detroit. He sees and understands that his job is not finished yet, so why start over elsewhere.

Pretty much that whole offense comes back next year. They are flat out dangerous, especially the last 4-5 games or soand they are all still young and learning. Draft some defense and this will be one tough team.

I think had the Chargers or potentially Falcons job been open he would have taken those. Washington has great potential for a massive headache for a first-time head coach. It's all-new everything there. Great to see him staying around Detroit another year. He'll get his head coaching chance eventually.

Coordinators shouldn’t be in a rush to leave once they find success. Nowadays newly hired head coaches are usually fired if they don’t produce right away. OCs and DCs should take on the role when they are comfortable taking on the head coach position and confident in their ability to win with the roster. It shouldn’t be just because the money enticed them, that’s how you end up a “one and done”

I hear you! I grew up in the SF Bay Area, so my team is the Niners. But my Dad grew up in Michigan and has been a Lions fan since 1964, so the Lions are my team too. Like, one is my hometown team and the other is my family team. To see that sparkle and joy return to my Dad's eye this season after decades of frustrated anger turned to jaded indifference was a sight to behold. The Lions lost only because of the dreaded 3rd quarter, but if they had just been 5% better, they would have won. This makes me even more excited for next season!!
