RERELEASE OF RICH MULLINS CONCERT RECORDING AT YOUTH FOR CHRIST SECOND SATURDAY, 1992 WITH PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED PHOTOS OF THE EVENT
Ragamuffin Archive is excited to rerelease a historic concert performance by acclaimed Christian artist Rich Mullins, accompanied by David “Beaker” Strasser, from the Youth for Christ Second Saturday event on September 12, 1992. The event, held at Moody Memorial Church in Chicago, Illinois, drew over 3,000 young people for an evening of worship, music, and an inspiring message of hope.
Rick Whitmer, Senior Director of Mobilization for Hutchcraft Ministries and producer of the original event, recently uncovered previously unpublished photos of the concert from his father’s archives. These never-before-seen images were captured by Jim and Mary Whitmer at the event.
Rich Mullins’ 1992 performance was part of a lineup that also included renowned Christian bands like Petra, Whiteheart, and Newsboys, as well as speakers such as Josh McDowell, Ron Hutchcraft, and Ken Davis.

This concert was first released by Ragamuffin Archive on September 7, 2011. However, the concert was originally uploaded to the now defunct Christian Concert Archive message board by Timothy P. Burns who attended and taped the event. The recording was recently remastered by our own Hal Swift.

Praise God for this video., it made me teary at times and smile at other times, but it is soul-stirring and directs me towards Jesus, just as Rich's music always did.

This was an amazing concert! I loved hearing Growing Young on here the best! And I must say Rich’s beard looks amazing along with the little bits of gray. It might be one of the first photos ever taken of him with gray in his beard. Thanks for the upload! 😃

Thanks for posting this. So far its my favorite of the previously heard versions of "let me sing" (22:50) usually sang in 4 part harmony. I love him singing it solo. His voice is soulful and the lyrics are powerful. Its especially moving given it is written from Matthew 5... the beatitudes.

I missed this by one year, as a Moody student, I would volunteer to counsel at these concerts. I guess I sound old, but this really seems like an ancient time and place now. Although I somewhat understood at the time what a privilege it was to be there, I wish I would have understood more that this was going to be the best time of my life.

Rich had the ability to grow a good beard. If he was around now, he'd probably vacillate between being clean-shaven and having a Duck Dynasty-style beard.
