This is wonderful - his voice caught at its finest. He was a truly exceptional lyric tenor.

❤ 🎉Ah! Sweet mystery of life At last I've found thee Ah! I know at last the secret of it all; All the longing, seeking, striving, waiting, yearning The burning hopes, the joy and idle tears that fall! For 'tis love, and love alone, the world is seeking, And 'tis love, and love alone, that can repay! 'Tis the answer, 'tis the end and all of living For it is love alone that rules for aye! Love, and love alone, the world is seeking, For 'tis love, and love alone, that can repay! 'Tis the answer, 'tis the end and all of living For it is love alone that rules for aye!💞

TIMOTHY BEERY I didn't put this up, n don't know to transfer the lyrics to you, but the name of the song is Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life. You can find it with no problem I'm sure. Seems the internet has endless info.

A great tenor, largely forgotten today, sadly.

The long-time “Voice of the Metropolitan Opera Broadcasts, Milton Cross, told me that in his opinion Richard Crooks had the most beautiful lyric-tenor voice of his generation. Cross had heard every Met tenor beginning with Caruso, and paid Crooks the further compliment of being one of the finest musicians among all the singers of that period. Crooks sang the very moving “Berceuse” (“Angels Guard Thee”) at the funeral services for Cross’s daughter, Lillian Gale, who died at the age of eight in 1933.

I just found this record in my things broken in half. I can’t believe it’s broken- man a collector would have been thrilled to have had it.

I'm blown away by his songs. Earlier, I discovered an old album done by him and his Balladeers doing Stephen Foster tunes and am completely sold. Thank you for including these!

Stefaan, not necessarily forgotten, but not as popular as the others, I think he was better than John McCormac

One of my darlings of the past. Nice ring in the voice, good appogio, efficient diction, consistent vibrato in the voice, pretty good line. This sounds 1/2 step lower than the the original, but that could just be the recording process of the day.

When I was a student in London a Romanian friend Basil Ashkenazi presented me with a recording of Richard Crooks singing this Victor Herbert classic. I was mesmerized. I said to him Diese Musik hat mich ganz mushugge gemacht. . He couldnt understand German , but he got the drift. .Ive heard a number of tenors and a couple of baritones sing this song but I feel R.C. had an edge over the others. . . . - via YTPak(.com)

Beautifully clear sound on this! Is it well preserved or well restored? Anyway, I love this version. I had not heard it sung by Richard Crooks before, but I grew up with his music in my Grandfather's collection! I love his voice.

Crooks is perfect in this with his lyric tenor light and pliant, Yes it is sad that music has so deteriorated into screaming, flashing lights and, alas is no longer music. At least Elvis crooned a few decent tunes

Don't heap ELVIS in with the trash of today. "THE KING" actually had a great singing voice.
