@askella A your throwaway comment stating that the Jamaican government should take over the Cockpit country is insensitive and shows a lack of empathy. If the Jamaican Government were doing a better job in the main part of the country I'd say you have a point but the fact is they are NOT. The murder rate on its own in Ja is frightened, crime & murder is reported almost on a daily basis compare that with the maroons 2020 Jamaica murder reported 1,301(and rising as we speak) Cockpit Country=ZERO and its been that way for generations. The maroons are clearly doing something right. There is alot to be said of "being in the world but not of it" they (the naroons) are within the Island of Jamaica but not of it they ask for nothing and get nothing from the government except assistance to educate their children. They are in my opinion far better off governing themselves especially when they have ignorant ministers like Deputy PM Horace Chang highlighting his stupidly for the world to hear, stating that as far as he is aware the maroons don't own any land. Chang himself as head of Security is sleeping on the job for which he is being handsomely paid he need to wake up and dig up some history of the island. Leave the indigenous land loving Maroons along. They fought 2 wars against the Spanish and the British to gain their own autonomy for now to be lead by a micky mouse government is not fitting.

I first visited Accompong in 1982, having no knowledge of the Maroon culture/history---I had been told I would find U Roy performing for their Celebration Day(and did). It was a VERY auspicious visit, an education of the importance of the Maroon people to Jamaica. Absolute total respect is due, and both then and other visits found me having the deepest and most restful sleep I ever had on the island. All the best to this new leader, bless.

The problem most is having with this present chief is his "look" more millennial and trendy. When Maroons are spoken of its expected to see them in some african robes depicting African culture/royalty. So many within the culture or older folks so to speak won't necessarily take him seriously. It's now up to this new chief to prove the mass wrong.

Real men especially maroons and their leader must at all times do the right thing to survive on an day to day basis. All those various organizations have now become a robin hood nation, all wearing tights and not dressed as they supposed to, in order to really differentiate themselves as a people, but still living as one, in unity and in love.there is no way one can tell a maroon different from a normal Jamaican in a crowd of fifteen in a town, because all dresses the same whether straight, lean or otherwise. If a person is really real and living up to their reputation, then why not show the difference wherever thou goes. Wise up people. If you people are preserving and conserving the maroon statues and history, you must also do the same for the maroons dress code, morals and work ethics. Because doing all things especially dressing as those of the society and babylonian system you have then become one with them. Why give up the legacy that was slaved for, fight for, killed for and given to, for fame, fortune and vaniterial gifts and ornaments. For fighters are always to be fierce, calm, unseen, self providers and genuine until the next day of mayhem appears. For why mix with the system if you have your own laws and are not really a part of the system....

@@robertgayle1217, Thays not what I'm saying, its not like we live in Africa, we live in Jamaica, we're African descendants. Secondly, the young man chooses to dress modern because he is a man of the world. Thirdly, his dress code has nothing to do with his substance, help is what accompong needs and hopefully he is able to do it.
