This is absolutely true. One has to be able to relate to the student, that's the key. If student's don't know why they are busting their butts over equations they will create a mental block and lose interest. I read Greene's "Icarus at the edge of time" to my daughter and she loved it. I quickly realized that the relationship between space/time interested her so I explained it to her. Once the fascination forms, one can nurture it and help it grow. If not, it's just useless equations to them.

Well, they aren't talking about college,"lol". In college, you *need* to be doing the actual scientific processes. They mean early learning. If you took two college level "science" classes, and lost interest, you shouldn't be worried about science because it's clearly not your thing. What they are saying is that there is plenty of time for "real" science in universities; but when kids are young (elementary to middle school), we should teach them in the way that they are discussing.

Science should be taught as a way of thinking and not just the facts. Afterdoing a few college level science classes you lose interest.
