The thing about this is that Dawkins was under the impression that he was there to debate with Flowers about religion. He was embarrassed and actually apologized when he realised that Brandon was there to just promote his band. That's why Dawkins came across overly aggressive. The host should have made this clear to Richard beforehand. And to upload this clip without explaining the situation is kind of pathetic and unfair to both men.

Why defend Dawkins? Dawkins is highly educated and was obviously purposely brought into this conversation to make Brandon Flowers look like a fool, regardless of a later “apology”. Context or not - Dawkins is the charlatan. Dawkins believes that EVERYTHING related to religion is fake - why else bring Dawkins to a discussion with someone that believes the Book of Mormon. About music? Ridiculous. Watch Dawkins against Ben Stein - there’s a debate that would go over well.

Brandon is literally the most awkward celebrity on any kind of interview, he isn't easy to talk and that's why he does music. Do you wanna hear what he has to say about his religion? Go listen to The Killers albums: "Imploding the Mirage" and "Pressure Machine". As a spoiler, he is not a brainwashed Mormon, he is very stative on things about his own faith. Leave that man practice whatever he wants. EDIT: I'm not Mormon or practice any kind of religion so I don't care what does he or any of you believe. Torah and the Quran are ancient documents, but the difference is they make up the base of the legal system in Judeo-Christian society even for today's secular atheist countries, for example in pre-christian pagan/godless Europe, adultery, incest and bestiality was completely lawful until Christianity implemented strict mosaic shari'a from the Old testament (comparable to Islamic shari'a), where in certain cases death sentences were issued to convicts. Atheism leads to degeneracy of morality as they don't believe in objective morality from a higher source in any way. As an atheist they should have no objections to incest between same sex siblings for example. But yet incest is still illegal in all secular countries. Bunch of hypocrites piggybacking off of God's holy laws then denying God completely. Btw hateful people still burn Qur'ans all the time. Speakers corner london where some manchild (not worth mentioning their name) goes up to people and drills a hole in the Qur'an and plays with a toy mouse in the holes. Some atheists done it to bibles but they got bored now.

@@lukehanson_ Which account of the first vision are you using as your source? lol Joseph Smith was a con man and changed his story multiple times regarding what happened, who appeared to him and what they told him. The church has basically taken those accounts and gone with an amalgamation of the 4. It also doesn't matter what age Joseph Smith claimed to have had the first vision. That's not what they're discussing. He's referencing Joseph Smith's criminal history. He was convicted of deceiving people as a treasure hunter. Your argument is like saying you can't be an expert on the OJ murder trial unless you know at what age he learned to ride a bike. You can have an extensive knowledge of one without knowing the other.

@@Scotter4536 incorrect. The age of Joseph Smith is part of the story, therefore why I said a 10 year old latter day saint would know. If you don't know something a 10 year old did know about the faith, you probably shouldn't claim expertise. It's funny you hold up the criminal justice system as a good metric to determine a person's moral character in the same paragraph you use the OJ trail as an example. I understand why you may think that, however, once you understand the doctrines and tenets of most mainstream religions, there are very clear divisions between Mormonism and other religions. Indeed they share plenty of commonalities but Mormonism is an extremely new, modern religion -- its roots aren't shrouded in historical uncertainties like Christianity for example, whose books have been selected, curated, and modified by powerful people through the ages (ie. King James Bible). Like Richard says, it's quite clearly a 19th century creation. It's much easier to critically assess Mormon claims about reality, as we have access to far more verifiable information due to its recency. We can also critically assess Joseph, his life and his motives. Mormons make historical claims about North America, historical figures who supposedly lived here hundreds or thousands of years ago -- which are easily debunked by science.

If Dawkins had studied and lived by the principles in the Book of Mormon, which principles are those of Jesus the Christ, he would not belittle this book or those that strive to live the principles found therein, Dawkins and those that try to belittle Christ's teachings need to know, God will not be mocked. Dawkins and those that mock the Book of Mormon need to prayerfully study this book as many thousands do each year and become converted to the restored gospel. Why do these converts like me accept the Book of Mormon and its teachings, well it is simple God begins to bless them in ways they never imagined. Yes there are those that leave the ranks of the saints, but the reasons are that they often cannot live the principles or commandments the Lord asks them to abide. Yes, most people don’t want the hassle of a religion that needs them to change, this is understandable, none of us really want to change. However, I invite you and all to experiment for a year or more and put aside all the negatives and miss information about the Book of Mormon and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, put all their negative thought into a black box and forget them. Then participate in building the Lord's kingdom in your heart today. This includes Dawkins and his kind, all non-believes and those that have left the church for whatever reason they and all would be welcome. Instead of listening and viewing all the negative information about the Book of Mormon try a little faith and maybe click the following links below and find out for yourself if the Book of Mormon is true or not. I actually really like how Brandon has mentioned Johnny Cash and Elvis singing Gospel too and did they need to be insulted about it? All his years in Vegas I imagine Brandon seeing many Elvis impersonators and thinking oh so just wear a flashy jacket and sing people like that and now he's older than Elvis when he died doesn't pop pills isn't overweight not a womanizer so I think he does whatever works for him.

Fun fact: I used to be a HUGE Dawkins/Atheist Thinker fan in High School. I was *sure* these guys had it all figured out. The Killers had already been my favorite band, and I remember watching this video and instantly realizing exactly how big of an asshole Dawkins and co were actually being. Resolved to taking stock of who I was and making sure I'd never be that way myself. In a very weird, roundabout way seeing that interview those years ago made me a better person in that it helped me realize I did not want to be like these guys *at all*. I'm now like, a very chill agnostic-ish-catholic-ish guy who understands that religious belief is such a uniquely personal thing, and that it and the way it plays into our lives is way more complicated than shit stirrers like Dawkins give it credit for. Dawkins wants desperately to be perceived as this wise man running around waking people up to some 'reality' but at the end of the day he's working with an insane level of luck and privilege to be able to sit in his ivory tower and issue edicts as to how regular people should grapple with the mystery of existence. He tries to make it about acts committed in the name of religion but those same acts have been committed in the name of the state, hatred, love and any number of other reasons people do bad things. If he truly cared about the plight of people in oppressive regimes he wouldn't spend so much time mocking those born into faith but addressing the problems head on. Contrary to his belief that getting paid to give speeches to hoighty toighty folks is helping anyone but him, it's not. Dawkins' head is so far up his own ass he can't smell his own shit anymore, and that's saying something because he's really full of it.

@hgm26 His point was that the BoM was written in Elizabethian English while everyone in America spoke American English. But he missed the part where everyone in America had access to the Bible, which was written in Elizabethian English. Not to mention, he lied about Joseph Smith being convicted. He never was. And Joseph Smith didn't plagurize the Bible, he quoted it. As did many authors in the New Testament when they quoted Prophets of the Old Testament.
@Iceman20102010
@Iceman20102010 9 ай бұрын
@hgm26 a valid case by accusers that was so valid that he was never convicted. So, exactly how valid was the case? The Mormons at that time had no government or political allies, so the case had to be pure conjecture for an opposing judge and jury to reject it. Sure, that is what happens when you quote something, it is word for word, just like when the New Testament authors quoted the old Testament Prophets. In the 1830s there was only one widely used version on the Bible, the kjv. The BoM is written in the same language as the kjv Bible because it is scripture just like the Bible. So it would be no surprise that a translation of scripture like the Bible was written in the same style as the Bible.

@@Nozarash1 you can easily dispute the Quran, it was put together 300 years after Muhammed died by hundreds of different people coming together and attempting to recount generational stories. That's not very good system for factual accuracy. Then on top of that you have the overwhelming plaguerism from other cultures and Christianity and Judaism. Christianity is a plaguerism of Judaism, for example the Jewish tribes used to send a goat loaded with "the sins of the tribe" into the desert to die. This is the origin of the word scapegoating, and pretty much the premise of Jesus. Judaism itself arose out of a polytheism, and was but one sect of a diverse religion with many gods.
