@@Astrothunderkat Yeah, I figured. So is RDA pretty much. I don't mind the actors having Left leaning politics so long as they don't use their acting work itself as a political platform. I've never noticed Shanks or Anderson pushing politics in any particular heavy handed way. One might find minor examples, but it has never overshadowed everything else. What politics they support on their own time is their business as far as I'm concerned, they just shouldn't allow personal politics to dictate the stories of the show.

@@lauriestlyon8773 I think it's a sort of obsession with being "adult" which really doesn't age well, because the only universal thing for humans is childlike humor, wonder and excitement. @PANTA-Music5 жыл бұрын
If I read this 2 years ago, I maybe would say yes. But today Star Trek Discovery is actually doing the same thing for the current generation. The problem is that we relied on our childhood or youth and that everything was fantastic. Now, we are older and our imagination isn't working that great anymore, and it becomes harder to attach to series than we used to do. So, anything modern is automatically written off and everything from our youth was the best. And to be honest, that has nothing to do with the quality of todays sci-fi, but everything to do with yourself and your forced nostalgia. ( I know what you mean, though. But it is close minded ) Open your mind and a lot of things becomes like they were used too. Like I said, Star Trek Discovery is actually just as great and turns to be even better. The serie 'Lost in Space' has only one season and there is another in the making which is also a great one. Moviewise, Interstellar was great. And there are many others that could be mentioned. You see, there are plenty of stuff to choose from. It's just between a bigger pile of sci-fi series. Don't let nostalgia dictates your entertainment value for the rest of your life...

@OzarkoBlam It wasn't glorious I give you that. Call it trash however is really too harsh. Characters were trash, actors were great. Mentality was trash, ambiance was great. Season 1 geopolitics weren't that bad. Season 1 story was quite good for science freaks sci fi fans, we kinda found a similar "research technological progress" we were all fond of in SGA. Season 2 was really trash. And it was visually stunning, even though they overdid it on biomes & nature things. Sure it wasn't great, but I'm not gonna complain for a sci fi tv show with great sfx in 2019. The Expanse is by far the greatest show of sf now anyway. Discovery is just peanuts

STD/STP are 100% TRASH shows. The new Murder Treks sucks. The Expanse ... Is Great. Altered Carbon ... Is Great. Anyone who says STD/STP are good just lost all credibility on Sci-Fi opinions imho. @ChibiHoshiDragon5 жыл бұрын
@Marcus Knightingale thehehe. I never said anything about quality. I was only talking about TONE. I mean DS9 was dark. But then again Roddenberry didn't much like ST:II or the script for VI. He would have not liked Sisko being The Prophet. Or the Dominion War. BSG hold the same ideals that he would have disliked. The party crashing episode could have easily been cut to make Prior Daniel a 2-parter. Really nice thoughtful interview though, especially the end with Shanks' thoughts on science fiction.

LOL! Now I know why they're married. I think that's a marriage that is going to last a while.

I missed Stargate so much I went and got *all* the books for SG1 and Atlantis. Just so many more stories/episodes that could have been made and I experienced them all and with the actors voices and mannerisms. It was really great and suggest if you are curious to get just one book and read it. Mine are all books and got read in bed at night. 👍

What a great answer at the end. Characters working *together* in peril. This is so much of what is missing from other, more recent attempts at sci-fi.

I love SG-1, and Atlantis. I liked the characters and it's story lines and especially the humor. I liked their villains and how sometimes they were as a race/Nationality the enemy and sometimes some individuals within the race/Nationality not their enemies but allies or at least share a common enemy that wasn't each other at that time but will most likely be once the obstacle is removed. I liked that dynamic because it gave me a sense of when is the other shoe going to drop and they go back to fighting each other again? It also showed that not everyone within any group is going to share the same goals or the same way of going about getting it. I also liked the fact that other more advanced civilizations refused to help and the reasons they gave are good ones. Not some lame ass ones. I like the fact SG-1 and Atlantis tried to be better and not always succeeding, but not necessarily because of malice or spite. Holiday is by far my favorite SG-1 episodes. Teal'c and O'Neil were hilarious. Especially when Teal'c mentions having to shave O'Neil's head. I loved Micheal from Atlantis and the relationship between McKay and his sister and the rest of the crew. McKay actually annoyed me the most for the first few episodes but he became my most favorite character of the show. Actually the whole supporting cast made Atlantis great. Universe...... Meh. I watched it and it never clicked with me. So I will just leave it at that. Stargate Origins: Catherine was corky and fun. I liked it. Could have removed the gay parts in it, that was unnecessary and killed what could have been good moments in the scenes had they not been there. A little on the SJW side but not to overly the top. I'm not a fan of SJW BS. They were pushing it with this story line, but not enough I would give it a thumbs down. But again, they were pushing it. The yellow eyes, a bit much. But I was willing to give that a pass. Serqet's costume and acting....... one of the down sides to this movie I would say next to the unneeded gay parts. Plus I couldn't get out of my head Micheal was there and was thinking he was just going to be sent off to some Wraith planet to get infected for the crew of Atlantis to find and his story line continue from there. Wouldn't that have been one heck of a twist! :X I wish we had more shows in SG-1 where other's from Earth got out to explore where it wasn't just SG-1 going to clean up the mess they made. Or got to see what happened after Atlantis landed back on Earth. Was the secret of the Stargate finally known to the whole world? Or are they just going to keep it cloaked forever?
