This was priceless on both ends. His physical horror and her childlike delight. I know folks don't tend to like Hyacinth for her pretensions from her poor upbringing, but honestly there are not many women who would consider a security system as an appropriate anniversary gift. She also breaks her neck to take care of everyone n her life even if she's not always graceful about it.

I hate when people say things like that. They don't do comedy better than anyone - they do it different. I grew up watching Benny Hill, As Time Goes By, Are You Being Served, Keeping Up Appearance and shows like Ali G, Coupling, Last of The Summer Wine. To be sure - KUP appearance is the only one that made me laugh out loud. The others were just interesting British shows that crossed lines USA TV couldn't or wouldn't at the time. I found a lot of the humor vulgar at times - to be honest. But I loved them because they were slices of British humor and life and so different from my own. The Australians do humor wonderfully, too. I think Kath & Kim is funnier than any of these British shows I mentioned. I could watch Kath & Kim over and over again - although some of their humor is a bit crass as well. I don't like crass or vulgar humor AT ALL, but I know to reach the masses it must be added in. *sigh*
@birreboi
@birreboi 3 жыл бұрын
@@TodaysSpecialMinis I agree with one thing you wrote - and that is yes, British V American humour/comedy is different (and Australian and other countries). But I would still say, regardless of your diatribe, that British is generally 'better', in my opinion. My main reason for saying this, is that a lot of American comedy and movies are often like 'oh, aren't we so great' type of attitude. Rather sickening I find, but that is not to say I hate their comedy/movies/whatever. The British are much better at being 'natural' at comedy without being so up themselves like the yanks.

A top of the line security system would make her feel super exclusive and special. Brilliant! I could picture her making a big deal about it to all the neighbors on installation day 😄

Hahaha I don't believe in anniversary buyings. As long as you remember your vows that's what is romance to me.

I loved watching keeping up appearances back in the day and I still do now. This is one of the best episodes IMO and I think there was nobody better than Patricia Routledge and Clive Swift to portray Hyacinth and Richard Bucket (pronounced Bouquet btw) hahaha. He forgot their wedding anniversary and he was saved by the burglar alarm, briefly. If only he had remembered the year of their wedding 😂😂

I live on a Reservation (Native American) n NM. I introduced this hilarious British brilliant comedy show to my sons. Many moons ago. They are all on there own now and they love Onslow and Daisy the most! Thank you to KNME Channel 5, Albuquerque NM. For making that possible on Saturday nights! There's more comedy shows that has aired as well. One from Scotland (Ballykissangel??) LOL I'm not sure anymore, it's been years I last saw the show. And a few more as well. Just a few. N the country of scotland..I noticed they built stone walls as fences, as we do here n America. Alot of stone wall "fences". I think that is awesome. I'd love to visit your Country (England & Scotland)....but who am I kidding, right. I never will. BUT HEY!......I have the DVD's to hook up and start laughing. You All Rock..across the Pond, as they say. Cheerio! 💖

This is my favourite episode because other episodes usually revolve around Hyacinth being difficult and everything around her falling short of unrealistic expectations. This is just Richard trying to slip by and make sure Hyacinth doesn't find out about him forgetting their anniversary.

And I love the scene where he goes out to the callbox and begs the security installers to come out that day to look over their house.
