What I take away from this is what an incredible musician RF is. He is always talking about how he can compliment Slash's sound and how certain pickups in the mix clash with Slash's tone. Rhythm guitarists all over take note here! No ego, just an incredibly humble guy wanting the best live sound from the band. I have a new level of respect for RF. \m/

Not even a true rhythm guitarist. He is such an amazing player and is the perfectly second guitarist to ever compliment Slash in a live setting. Hell, when I saw GNR live back in 2011 (where it was RF, Bumblefoot, and Ashba), he was taking leads like it was nothing. I love RF's playing so much. He is so smooth, tight, and melodic with his playing. He knows his stuff when it comes to gear, too.

I love to hear Richard play. Exceptionally talented, and he knows how to dial in a really great sound too. Give him a Marshall and a Fender, a Germino and a Supra, a Crate, you name it.... he will find a way to get the sound he wants. He could make any amp sound great.

I agree with you Mark, I really meant in the general public eyes (and some guitarist too). But that's why I said he's really a very underrated guitarist. For most people, if you ask who's G'N'R guitarist(s), they will reply: Slash. That's why I think it's sad for Richard Fortus that really seems to be a guitarist worth to be known. But I guess it's also the same thing with AC/DC, most of people will first say Angus and not Malcom.

I am guitar player and always admired slash even with my taste evolving through the Years. Every guitarist playing in GNR Will be in Slash’s shadows regardless of how technically skilled They Are because slash wrote those songs and melodies And that is What playing is about: music. Comparisons aside I always hated GNR without slash but the more I see this guy his humbleness and the professional Way He fills his job the more i like and admire the guy. Amazing professional and what a lesson his rig rundowns are!

The coolest person in the world right now. Richard is an amazing person, amazing guitar player and amazing entertainer. My guitar idol since I started in 2006. Had the chance to ask him something over the internet 2 times and he always took the time to respond kindly, even though he's always busy. Imagine how many messages he must get in a day, yet he takes the time to reply.

Richard Fortus is absolutely one of the great, criminally underrated rhythm guitars of his generation. In the same vein as Malcolm Young and Izzy Stradlin, he has built a unique tone that fills sonic space in the mix and complements the lead. Where most rhythm guitar tones are simply quieter versions of the lead, Fortus makes rhythm parts a present, discernible component in the scope of the mix. He hasn’t been on my radar for a long time, but I’ve quickly come to respect and admire him as a player as much as just about any other guitarist around today. Doesn’t hurt that he’s a total gear nerd and gives a thorough, interesting interview and actually seems to enjoy it. Terrific video, enjoyed it a lot.

It's cool how RC takes the time to do these rig rundowns himself, instead of sending his tech. Don't get me wrong, Duff and Slash are cool guys too, and it's possible that they got their share of band ownership back, so they may be in meetings or who knows. It's just really cool to see rockstars do this. It lends an air of humility.

I'd love to hear how Richard's changed his tone in GN'R over the years - since he's talking a lot about complementing Slash's tone here, it'd be interesting to hear how that differs from working with Buckethead, Finck, Ashba and Bumblefoot's tones over the years. And also how he's changed his sound to accommodate the two-guitar setup as opposed to the three-guitar line-up that GN'R used to have.

I like RF and he comes across well as always... But he's such a great player, so why does he have so much gear that doesn't matter? Once the sound has left his amp, gone through a mic, a mixing desk, a PA system and bounced around a stadium, no one will hear nuisances of pickup angles or subtleties of valve amps. Great playing just needs a half decent guitar and one amp.
