Sharon Stone presents the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy award to Richard Gere for his role in "Chicago." Gere thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press, pulled out the acceptance speech his wife wrote and continued thanking Kander and Ebb, Rob Marshall, John De Luca, Marty Richards, Craig Zaden, Neil Meron, Harvey Weinstein, the "Chicago" cast and his family.

Disappointed Gere didn't at least get Oscar nominated for this movie. I also think he deserved a Best Actor nomination for Primal Fear. I know everyone is enamored with Edward Norton, but Gere delivered a superbly nuanced lead performance in that film. Really underrated.

2002 was a great year for Gere. He starred in Chicago, Unfaithful, and The Mothman Prophecies. Great films and three different genres. He went from a musical to a drama/erotic thriller and a horror/mystery/psychological thriller. If not an Oscar nomination for Chicago, I wish he got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Unfaithful.

Primal Fear, Pretty Woman, American Gigolo and Chicago were bonafide Oscar snubs. Richard Gere is a lot more than just a pretty face under a majestic mane of snowy white hair who also happens to be tenacious, salt-of-the-earth humanitarian. He's a brilliant actor who has proven himself time and time again only to be cut down on each occasion shamefully by the ravaging political machine that is Hollywood

He's a brilliant actor , very much. Obviously oscar isn't 100% accurate all the time in terms of judging. Sommersby 1993 him and Jodie Foster were brilliant in that film. Made me cry a lot. He's not just a pretty face attached to it is pure talent indeed.

Richard was robbed of an Oscar nomination, they gave it to John C. Reilly for his "Mr. Cellophane" performance in the movie instead. People blame director Rob Marshall for not showing Richard's entire body doing the tap dance number scene in the movie, a lot of Oscar voters assumed it was a stunt double doing the tap dance. It wasn't, that was Richard himself doing the tap dance scene.

Believe it or not, most actors that win this Award have a very Slim chance to be nominated for an Oscar, let alone win. From 1999 to 2003 NONE of the Winners were even nominated for an Academy Award. Actresses winners of the Golden Globe for best performance in a Comedy have a better chance than actors.
