I love Richard Hammond. He'd be awesome to golf with, unless he's driving the cart. You'd be upside down in a fiery crash by the second hole. Edit-wow, he actually says this at 40:50

I love Rick but I wanna say I'm always so impressed with Guy on this podcast. He adds so much and is so good at moving this show along, adding interesting insights, asking questions in the perfect way, and summarizing things quickly. He just makes doing this show look so easy but he's so smart and good at it, it goes unnoticed how hard it is until you watch a different show with someone who isn't as good.

Grew up on Top Gear and the lads…I found Rick (and yourself, Guy) a few months back and it really brought forward inspiration to play golf as I’ve always wanted to do, and I am now getting into the sport as a young adult. What a great collaboration of personalities. Much love :)

Superb mate, I'm also getting back into golf at the age of 27. I played fairy regularly from the age of about 5 until 15 but mostly stopped when my parents split up. I'm finally getting back into it 12 years later. You'll definitely get better with time, and don't worry too much about handicap, just have fun and practice when you can.

My golf clubs fit in the boot of my VW Golf GTI mk7! I don't have to takey driver out of anything. All my clubs are standard length. To get it in, I have to stick the head of the driver in first and then squeeze/roll the bottom of the bag in. It's a tight fit, but it does fit.

On the car subject: Yes, definitely see a lot of fancy cars at golf courses, even in a country like Finland where the average car age is literally twice that of UK (so the AVERAGE car on the road here is about a 2006-2007). I do get the occasional look rolling in on a pretty ratty 1991 Ford Sierra... Though I've also met a fair few peeps who have complimented me on it, saying that they used to love their old Sierras and that it's good to see someone still keeping them on the roads. =)

I think anyone who has openly mocked golf, only to find themselves on the fairway, cursing themselves at 7:30 in morning every Saturday in their 30s can relate to Richard. I had this same experience this summer. Never thought I would like it. I said "What makes you think I would like this?" A few months later, and dread the coming of winter for yet another reason. Baseball is done, driving anywhere is a chore, and now I can't go out on a Saturday morning and be frustrated as I try to get really good at something new for the first time in almost fifteen years. Great episode, and beyond wild to see Richard Hammond on the show. Just don't get into the cart with him. He has a bit of a record behind the wheel.

Used to have a RallyeGolf… A classification series Golf G60 syncro designed to become Wold Championship winner, hand made by VW Motorsport, but obviously FIA didn’t like the idea of a supercharger, but opted out for turbos. Up to date it was the best handling car I ever have had, but you need to give gass, cause otherwise it was the regular front engine understeering block of steel, which all of a sudden changed out to become Beetle, oversteering chimera of the era. The porblem in that was the syncro center diff, whith the notorious lag in it.

Hi Rick and Guy. Love the podcast. It’s nice to have a genuine big uk production! Over the last few you discussed the impact of LIV events and recently the TGL simulation thing which sounds a bit like something created because the biggest brand pull can barely walk 18 holes anymore. Do you think there would be a market for 6hole match play leagues? Teams of 6, 3x men and 3x women, playing at home clubs around the world on their respective tours followed by an American style world play off system. Each event would only take around 3 hrs and would create support for teams around the world which would be a major advertising pull.

On the topic of golf clubs/bicycles etc being more expensive than someone's car, it's a passion vs essential cost. To most people a car is just a tool needed to travel long distances but their passion is what they actually love doing so it's worth more. Music's another thing that you can very easily spend more money on than a car.

The 2nd full round of golf I played I was told the rule about a hole in 1 (the buying a round). So, I'm from California, this has definitely jumped the pond, and made its way to other end of the continent. I was 9 at the time, so I was actually terrified of making a hole in 1 for years lol!

I can correct you. Most of those British formalities of golf stay across the pond. I've worked at a country club and played all types of courses in the US. Golf is definitely more relaxed here. Its also so much cheaper here. I think South Korean golf is much more like British golf: expensive and formal, but still fun.
