And many of their cars are actually pretty reliable. The Chimaera, and Griffith for instance use very well proven running gear, Rover V8 and Borg Warner T5 transmissions, Ford brakes etc. For a hand built exotic at a very fair price they're nowhere near as fussy as the Italians are.

When I saw the first salesman in the video my heart went out to him because I just knew that people were going to be saying cruel things about him and he's kind of an easy target. I find it amazing how quickly people jump on the opportunity to personally attack someone based on some tiny quirk or perceived weakness in their personality. Oh so you're all perfect, with the body of Brad Pitt and a few car dealerships of your own are you? What did the guy do wrong to deserve such a harsh criticism? It just baffles me how people race to hurt someone's feelings to make someone else feel better. I am willing to bet you all have insecurities of your own that we could all sit back and pick apart. I think you all see yourselves in him and you hate yourselves, so you must hate him. Pretty sad.

When I was in College in Florida in the late Eighties there was a dealer selling TVRs not far from the campus. I almost got to test drive one. I guess if I'd won the lottery back in those days I would have bought a Tasmin--but then I would have ruined it by getting a coupe with automatic transmission. Since the things basically had the same engine as a Ford Ranger pickup the upkeep would have been straightforward. But handling on those flat, slick and frequently wet streets might have been tricky for a young driver like me. The dealer in Florida was long gone when the Griffith debuted.

I wish these presenters would leave out the snide remarks like "there's none of the switchgear that came from out of a family hatchback", which is basically saying it's not taken from a Ford donor car and isn't some shoddy kit car. There's nothing wrong with parts from other cars fitted to a kit car, and with a kit car you can always customised it to your liking, over a period of time if you're buget isn't alot. Contrary to the myth these shows have us beleive, very few of us can afford any thing other than a kit car. There are some really good kits from old Ford donors and running gears. Hammand makes 28 grand for a TVR sound cheap when in fact it certainly isn't and not to many many people. I've probably only ever seen half a dozen TVR's on the road, which isn't surprising with a petrol gussling 4 or 5 litre engine, not to mention availability of parts will be very hard to come by with the company now gone. I think the latter will likely put most people off from owning one, which is ashame as they are a great sportscar.
