hmmmmmmmmmmm....TVR chassis.....During a factory tour with the genuinely delightful Ben Samuelson ('Marketing') I spotted a load of finished units outside, untreated , in the rain... I commented saying that might make them vulnerable ....official line was that they are so thick they would never rust through....Ohhh, yyyyyyyyyyyy didnt they galvanize and add a few hundred to the price - such a fundamental item, and when u have a rust proof body, it was so obvious to get chassis right - great opportunity missed, thx to the accountants no doubt Great cars, great madly enthusiastic hard working team...a few easily rectifiable flaws Ben, if your name comes up in a link... Hi ! :) - I thoroughly enjoyed dinner with you and your fiance and desperately miss the factory and the great team under the charismatic, drole PW :)

Good old Wheeler Dealers, dam i miss these older episodes. Watched it for 10 years in Portugal, amazing show and Edd work was amazing, Mike was important but i feel it let Edd down so many times by under selling the car and sometimes pretty much giving it away for free over so many episodes

Ummm.. It's not real life or a commercial business Leandro... it's just a TV show for entertainment purposes only. If you were to truly calculate the labour at any workshop all these cars would incur a MASSIVE loss..

I looked all over for the next part and could not locate it. I really wanted to see the TVR test drive. I question how the framework could have rotted like it did. Do they salt the roads in the UK? The powder coating should have saved it. If it's a known problem then the rubberized coatings used on American autos. I know nothing of this particular car but I liked the looks and design. I have seen a lot of midwest and east coast cars here in the states that have completely rotted out but it's due to the salt used on the roads during the winter.

I've always wanted a TVR, never did buy one though, now I'm glad I never did. TVR's are all hand built so not a cheap car to buy new, but watching this is makes me wonder just why didn't TVR make a better job of protecting the chassis to start with, by using a galvanised chassis then powder coating it, if need be, ok so that might have increased the purchase price of the car when new, but whats another £2000 on a £40 or 50k car.
@oh8wingman3 жыл бұрын
I don't know why some manufacturers insist on using a plastic coating for corrosion control. To be blunt, it's worse than having nothing at all. If there is any breach in the coating at all, corrosion at that point will be accelerated due to electrolysis. The corrosion that would normally be even over the entire part now takes place at that one little breach or pinhole. The best method for corrosion control is raw steel with a good coating of used motor oil sprayed on once a year. The oil will help to slow the advance of corrosion and there will never be a spot where concentrated corrosion takes place. Smart manufacturers use a product called neotar for an under coating. Neotar is opaque black in colour and is a petroleum based product that can be easily renewed with a garden sprayer and then just leave it. Petroleum based undercoats don't work by sealing the metal but by acting as a water shed as the oil repels water. No water, no rust.

1) I miss Edd on WD. Ant is fine - but Edd was King. 2) The car is gorgeous - I'd never seen one before I saw this episode - but such horrible rust protection for a relatively, recent car...especially a luxury one.
@Mr_Bones.3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, beautiful car but that potential for rust makes it worthless. At the beginning I wanted one, towards the middle I was already thinking how much better any Japanese car would be. By the 8 minute mark, I was convinced to stick with Honda, Toyota, or Mazda for a sporty car. Nice looking car, but that chassis rust is an obvious manufacturer design flaw. Reinforcement paint and protection should’ve been added from the start in a country that has snow 🤦🏽♂️ it’s almost insane how it doesn’t have any protection
@McRocket3 жыл бұрын
@@Mr_Bones. I agree 100% - felt the same sort of way at about the same, time frames. How frigging much could it POSSIBLY have cost them to make the frame, rust proof on the production line? An extra $15-20? Tops? Morons.

Why on Earth were the TVR chassis not all galvanized as standard? I worked at a towbar and trailer centre from the early 90s and the trailers we made ALL came with galvanized chassis that was guaranteed not to rust for either 20 or 30 YEARS!!! These were trailers that sold for roughly £1000-3500 in 90s money. These motors were sold for £35,000-£50,000 from what i remember? Peter Wheeler made SO MANY foolish decisions and stupid cost cutting that ended up killing TVR off for good. So sad as TVRs are epic cars that were ruined by Wheelers dodgy dealings!
