Phillipa Langley, the best researcher Leicester ever met. Have you no shame? Universities are only interested in bringing in research money. Phillipa! WELL DONE.

The university technically didn't do anything but be a name & showed support with some profits. Philippa started everything & deserves the credibility.

The university claims Philippa was 'part of the team' in all press conferences yet here she is sitting in the audience sidelined and the university putting their own people up front-where is Philippa's name label on the table?. Disgraceful. The university clearly didn't consider her part of the team. The end part of this press conference wasn't even published until recently-presumable because of the film. Apologies needed from the uni.

So it was true that Phillipa Langley was somewhat marginalised in this press conference, appearing last, and with her only being introduced as a 'guiding enthusiasm and drive' rather than the instigator and main funder of the dig. But, on the other hand she was thanked by the Deputy Registrar and Mayor specifically so the narrative of the Lost King is clearly exagerrated, saying she was not invited to speak and had to just watch from the audience and was given no credit, which is clearly not true. The Richard III society who Phillipa Langley is a member of and represents was credited with intiatiating process which led to the dig, she is called the 'originator of the search' in the slide introducing her. And there were no banners as portrayed in the film saying 'Richard III: We Found Him!' although the banner reads 'The university's search for Richard III. And yes, perhaps she should have been on the stage but it wasn't a big stage and most of the speakers were sitting down. She was in the centre of the front row. And presumably if Phillipa wanted to make points about the search and her role or the Richard III society, she could clearly have done so, and instead uses the platform to graciously thank others rather than glorfy herself. She doesn't look stressed or wounded as portrayed in the film. So while I think the film makes some good points, it clearly takes dramatic license with the facts. A grain of truth but nothing more and acutally a bit disappointing that what was clearly a collaborative proces that documentary evidence like this press conference and other press conferences and documentaries shows she was quite at ease with, has been twisted into a conflict polemic.

Why not acknowledge that she initiated the search? Why not seat her at the table? Why schedule her to speak last? Why did the version of the press conference that was originally posted not include Langley's speech? This video itself is all I need to believe that the University lacks integrity.

@@thepauldobbs Right!! Well stated and moreover, I believe that there is more than a just a grain of truth in what the film depicts .

Strange that Leicester University only posted the FULL press conference in 2022 and not in 2013, which in the latter certain sections were taken out. Almost like they had something, or someone, to downplay previously and now want to fully associate with. I am aware that the recent The Lost King film takes extreme dramatic license, however its very instructive of the University's intentions with regards to Philippa Langley with its youtube videos.

Take note of the lack of enthusiasm in clapping from those on the podium, when Philippa Langley finished speaking! Unlike the others were given full round of applause when they concluded their talk! A picture paints a thousand words!!! 59:49

The public are well aware of the facts and will make their own judgements. The original tv show covering the dig gave a fairly accurate picture with the University keeping it at arms length, the archaeologist doing the excavation half heartedly and even damaging the remains with a mattock when she would normally have been taking a lot more care....the TV company had some sort of comic on site presenting the programme...the only people who were serious about it were the Rickardians represented by Phillipa. Of course the Academics would swing into the saddle from thereon, it's instinctive for them to ruthlessly go for the kudos by being "published" or otherwise recorded for posterity - their main aim in life.

The University was happy to stay in the background when they thought that there was very little chance of Richard III being found.....but they bounded to the fore once he was found, elbowing Phillipa aside in order to reap the plaudits of the public and their peers.

It is intellectually dishonest that every presentation from the University of Leicester on the subject of finding Richard III does not start with an acknowledgment that this would never have happened without the driving force of Philippa Langley and the Richard III Society. I understand that the University wishes to burnish its reputation at every opportunity. I think you do not realize that this glaring omission tremendously reduces the reputation of the University. Shame!

Inexcusable that Philippa Langley was not on the table, the elitism and snobbery is plain to see. Despite University of Leicester trying to set the record straight, I find their explanation incredulous and their treatment of Philippa Langley is a stain on the academic world.

Without Philippa Langley the this search would have never happened. At least the university had the courtesy to invite her to speak.

This press conference, and the story of how the complete video of it has only recently been posted are solid evidence supporting the basic story line of the new film The Lost King. Academic snobbery and underlying insecurity are nicely documented here, and the two are exercised to such a degree that the basic result of the press conference is to deceive. Yes, the scholars and technicians of the University executed the mechanics of the discovery. But who lined up the clues that built the case and raised the funds to undertake the mechanics? Who is actually responsible for making it happen? Obviously Philippa Langely, but this University press conference basically hides those facts. These academic "searchers for the truth" are trying hard to deceive us. So mean-spirited, and at a deep level, so dishonest.
