I agree. The real Richard Jewell was actually intelligent and down to earth. They tried to paint as a Forrest Gump type but as someone pointed in KZbin comment, he was just more countrified. He was more low key and down to earth and was more in touch with the country boy life as opposed to big city living, but he was not at all a dummy! In all honesty If it was not for him many more people would have died! He is a true hero! I really hope you got a good settlement from his lawsuits! He believes if he follows all the rules and works hard and respects authority, he will be rewarded as a good person, however he is punished for doing the right thing and learns the hard way that the system doesn't work for him, but against him. If he uses the phrase "he or she" and you think this has been written to indicate a political 'ism', you are mistaken, It indicates he was taught this is the correct turn of phrase (maybe during one of those HR training sessions everyone sleeps through but him, taking notes!)

You can see on the FBI agents face, the exact wrong type of person to be in law enforcement at all. Unfortunately, for many law enforcement, and bureaucrats with power at all, it unfortunately comes down to them wanting to "win" against you....more than it is about getting it right. So even though they might be wrong in an instance, it's about them "winning" against you at some point. You see it ALL the time with all sorts of people who've been given gov't authority. You see it with building/city inspectors all the time and types like that. Show up at your house for an inspection, cite something wrong with the job/permit/etc. Be proven wrong because whatever reason..and basically instead of "you know what...you're right..sorry to bother you", it becomes a "yeah, but still.." where they've now decided you are wrong and they'll work backwards to another reason why. The WRONG type of person to be in ANY sort of authority position. Unfortunately, these jobs attract that very type. "They didn't respect me in school....now with a gun/badge/authority....they'll HAVE to respect me!"

The problem with this film is the basic underlying theme: they persecuted Jewell on nothing but rumors, appearance, and giant leaps of speculations. That was wrong. But Eastwood and the filmmakers are doing the exact same thing with that pretty reporter. They suggest she was a vampy temptress who lied and traded sexual favors for the story and scoops. Kathy Scruggs died before the film came out so she doesn't get the chance to speak for herself - as Jewell did here. I realize it makes for a more compelling story but you can't rail against certain behavior while committing the exact same behavior.
@patsik182 Жыл бұрын
Jewell was being framed to fit a profile. How else would Kathy (journalist) leak the details of a classified case? Was she a hacker? Two different issues here and regardless of how you feel she was portrayed. She did initiate the press blitz on Jewell. Not to mention jewell was also dead when the movie came out.
@ollieox9181 Жыл бұрын
@@patsik182 You're doing the same thing: speculation pretending to be solid evidence - based on a stereotype. Jewell was this fat loser who lived with this mother and was only a security guard and cop wannabe. So, maybe, he did this bomb thing to get attention and to be taken seriously. I can see them thinking that way. Bet a lot of people can connect those dots. But on what do you base the contention that Scruggs was a hacker? Wishful thinking and wet dreams are not evidence. Fox News churns out fairy tales all the time and hides behind the 1st Amendment: "I'm not saying that Joe Biden dresses up like a ballerina and sexually molests hamsters - I'm just asking questions!" In recent months, that kind of bs has cost Fox about $1 billion and there's a lot more coming.
