But the character development was lacking. He could have depicted the AJC journalist more accurately, like the fact she was a hard partier, but also a good journalist who made a mistake. It is interesting she never revealed her source, so somebody in the FBI maybe got away with smearing a good man’s name.

Not to Spoil, you'll enjoy for the scary resemblance between real and the actor (albeit he seems more sophisticated than the autistic Rain Man like movie portrayal) and the several Cheer Out loud moments (although my packed theater was uncannily sedated).

His uncanny resemblance to Jewell was amazing but the real Jewell was not as rotund and seems less naive and unsophisticated as he was portrayed in the movie. I hate to say people will enjoy the movie. It is a well crafted and accurate movie as I recall but it left me feeling profoundly sad for Jewell, his mother and our country.

From my reading the tupperware was taken because Eric Rudolph, the real bomber, used a tupperware container as part of the bomb in each of his bombings, and that they were returned....in pieces (no doubt for some sort of 'analysis'). Disney tapes, they could still have them.

When Clint shows the brief footage of the actual Jewell, it's uncanny how well Hauser nailed his voice and intonation, it was literally perfect short of having the real Richard act as himself. He seemed like a very gentle and responsible man, it's a frightening world given that it can all be brought down on you should a chosen few with the power to do so see you as a target to rally the world against. Poor man but a hero nonetheless.

Clint Eastwood did a genius job portraying that man's struggle. Also the casting is sensational, of course Jewell was played so accurately but also the straight talk of lawyer Bryant played by Rockwell was spot on.

This was one of the saddest stories I can remember. This man found the bomb. Saved lives. Did his job in the best way. In return, called a killer. Listen to his denial. He sounded honest to me. Since they didn't know, he was blamed. He is gone now. But I still feel horrible for him.

@@ropongi1008 When the Eastwood movie came out (which was more true to the story) there were plenty of articles on her role. The Netflix doc tried to fold the Rudolph story in and that created inconsistencies that were not there in the Eastwood version. Vanity Fair did a great piece on Scruggs' role in all this, and how she was portrayed. They also updated the article with the Netflix show.

At the time this interview took place Wallace believed Jewell might have been the bomber. In a follow up interview on January 2, 2002 over five and a half years after this interview in 1996, Wallace said he changed his mind and knew Jewell was not the bomber and was convinced so by other conversations he had with Jewell.
