Because it isn’t a Political Speech - nor is he addressing The Nation. He’s Speaking to People, People That He KNOWS, People That He Has Worked WITH. He’s Speaking from The Heart. He was the last Political Giant from an era of Politics where the prevailing wisdom still held that The Way to Win included *trying* to get The People Who Hate You to *LIKE* You, and The Theory of Good Governance relied upon projecting Power and Authority - that’s why whenever he addressed The Nation, he made every effort to recapitulate the fact that he was reading from something that was *WRITTEN DOWN.*

Watergate was nothing at the time. Nixon was petrified the Democrats would pull a ‘60 on him: again. Watergate didn’t make, nor any or all of the plumbers could, not on its best day, have made the slightest difference to the outcome of the election. Nixon resignation, is akin to Boris Johnson being kicked out of being PM for knowing somebody who pinched somebody else’s bottom.

I find Richard Nixon fascinating. Elected by the then-biggest electoral margin in history and yet so awkward with people he was unable to make small talk. He wore a suit and tie when home alone. Raised a Quaker with people who considered "gosh" to be profanity and yet as a grown man he was profane, paranoid and thirsting for revenge for perceived wrongs. A great little man. Only in this speech did he ever let anyone glimpse inside at any humanity.

Bill Prash Beautifully crafted about the 37th Commander-in-chief. Gotta have guts to do what he did on Aug 8, 1974. I admire him yet he gives me an eerie feeling or chills too. I don't think he would have achieved those things as President especially China and USSR had he not been this Nixon. After many years I am still startled and choke up in a pause when somebody asks what is my thoughts on Nixon. A true America patriot. Yes he earned every dime and everything else during his years in politics He still fascinates me every in death and years after Watergate.

This speech was Nixon as unfiltered and as a broken man. All the pretense, cunning, plotting and subterfuge were gone. Some of the pettiness still came through - with his comments about the press - but he showed a humanity and, yes, decency, that he was never able to show in his 5 and 1/2 years as President nor in his almost 30-year career in public life; nor in his almost 18 years after he left the White House. Nixon was one of the most intelligent persons to serve in the Presidency. His insights into China, the Soviet Union and the Middle East were brilliant and inspired. He was also not the right-wing reactionary that many of my party portrayed him to be. The EPA and OSHA were Nixon Administration initiatives, as was the war on cancer. The tragedy of Nixon was in his insecurity, inferiority complex and paranoia. He could never get it out of his system about the Eastern Ivy League Elites having all the advantages and little of the talent. On a certain level, Nixon was right of course. The fatal flaw was in not overcoming the chip on his shoulder in this regard. If the Nixon of this last speech as President had been the Nixon of the rest of his public life (sans the melancholy), he would have gone down as one of the truly great Presidents in our Republic's history. When I think of Nixon, I see the parallels to a film character created by Orson Welles in Nixon's relative youth - Charles Foster Kane. I'm altering the quote from Kane slightly in a scene in the movie to fit Nixon: "You know . . . if I hadn't been (paranoid instead of rich), I might have been a great man."

His former hideaway at San Clemente, CA where he retreated to after he gave that farewell speech, is up for sale. The asking price is a whopping $75M. Any takers?? This is the house that served as his "Elba" for the first 5 1/2 years following his forced resignation. Interestingly enough, Nixon was not the only Commander-in-Chief to have set foot in that mansion. FDR also set foot in that house while he was running for president back in the early 1930s.

This man did some incredibly vile things and I don't deny that..goodness knows more than any President before...but when all else is said and done and all have left him to his fate...and with no political advantage (many will cite a delusional mindset)....he still honoured those innocuous people working for him and his parents and many others who the modern day Presidents wouldn't even know existed...thats not the behaviour of a narcissist in my mind. You can only find diamonds as being flawless by natural creation. No surprise in humans being overwhelming more flawed over the years. This is the biggest flaw of all. Judging as if you were flawless. Because like that diamond we see it as being “perfect” and having more worth and extremely desired. Having money tends to think it brings happiness, finding life yet unfulfilled. And the poor don’t need money, but they to be shown or taught to be able to make a living. Fate sucks at time, the time of being faithful has left the hearts of humans. And our children are told that gender is a choice. I need a nap

"It will be so reported in the press, They've got to call it as they see it" Richard M. Nixon. "Fake News, & You're a terrible reporter"Donald J. Trump. From appreciation to absolute denigration.

Like trump the power of the office made Nixon think he could get away with activities that were corrupt. But unlike trump, Nixon did believe in public service, accomplished a lot for our international standing in the world, and came from nothing.
