I've seen this clip a few years ago on YT. Was a game show I think where celebs could do other things they weren't known for like sing , stand up etc. that he did this song for. Richard Pryor actually started out his career as a comedian/singer/entertainer in the clubs in Peoria IL but was told he didn't sing well so he stayed with the jokes. He talked about it too in a biography. If he didn't chain smoke & wasn't told no I think he could've done both sing & jokes. His singing was really good!

He was getting a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. That was a really nice star studded turn out. Truth be told, if you research Pryor's early days on the comedy circuit, this performance shouldn't be too much of a surprise. He did spend some time performing at the Cafe Wha?, a famous Greenwich Village club that also hosted a young Jimi Hendrix. I'm sure being surrounded by some great talent stoked those passionate flames in Pryor. JO JO DANCER, YOU'RE LIFE IS CALLING is another great peak into his storied career!
