A bowl gouge and the 1/2 in spindle or fingernail gouge are 2 of my reccomended go to tools. The bowl gouge is more versatile with the longer handle a bit more forgiving for new hands to use plus they work very well as a roughing gouge anyway. The spindle gouge will get most other jobs including and introduction to skew chisels and planing cuts as well as coving done too Ive been following your work for a long time Mr Richard

wonderful technique and beautiful result. one suggestion would be to show the blank before turning so we rank amateurs could get a good look at a cross grain piece. could you relate what the lathe speed was for this effort? thanks.

I would have liked to see the work pieces before turning. That would provide a better perspective of the work being done.🙂🙂

But... but... you could have made a whole other cute little bowl out of the extra bit of cylinder! Or a candle holder or something! Seriously though, that trueing cut is something that I have to work on, I tried it the other day on a 3x6 inch square slab of well-seasoned beech wood and it was very scary, with big chunks flying everywhere and lots of drama.

I will do just that another time but thanks
