What does it takes for this man to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall Of Fame? You or I will never see again two siblings dominant their sport in tennis. He raised not one but two champions in their respected sport in tennis. The Williams are legends and it's all due to their father Mr Richard Williams. It will be totally disrespectful to the sport of tennis, to The Williams Family, and to the Black Community if Mr Richard Williams is not inducted into the International Tennis Hall Of Fame before he dies!

She has no idea who she is sitting before. I am so glad he checks her because she asks the dumbest questions, her amazement reflects her deepp seated racism. She is astonished becaused she came to the interview with preconceived racist judgments and conclusions: he, Richard is ignorant, low, backward and so on. His whole interview is speaking on nothing but the power of the mind and making a laser focus to commit to your vision, in his case the vision was making his daughters to be the best Tennis players. He LITERALLY made a plan of that and stuck to it and proceeded to see it through. When it comes to manifestation and the law of attraction this story hits all the points on how when you commit to a vision and believe in the wish fulfilled then a bridge of incidents will bring it to realization. This interview alone is inspiring when thinking about what I want to commit to and accomplish for myself.🙏🏾

I met Richard twice at Compton City Hall when I worked for cable. We talked about his plans back then. Second time, he brought both daughters to meet me. And I never forgot those meets...and he actually did what he told me he planned to do with his daughters. Watching this, I do understand where he's coming from and I still live here in Compton, CA to this day...he's right too. I know the park and the situation, too, that he had to deal with...gangs, drug sales and shootings. Bullets don't shoot people...and fear of Compton and it's environment didn't make me move either. Still here and living my best life in Compton. He was just as intense and I believed him at his word way back. Reminds me of my own dad, his values and experiences. People just don't understand....racism is what it is but we don't have to accept it as defining who we become in life. USC alumni and former Planning Commission member here...so I do remember him very well. A very strong man with lots of heart. We have a common history of having no fear of nothing. I got called a N in Torrance and I didn't even trip because I rolled up my car window and smiled at the nut who called me that. Men we don't back down and back away. Richard's my type of man...determined and very strong character. I liked him and when he came the second time to introduce me to his two daughters, I felt honored, because of his character. I'd love to sit down and chat with him again and apologize since my bosses didn't want to do a story on them when I tried to urge them it was a good story to profile on the city's government access channel those many years ago. And I had to give him the bad news, face to face. And he thanked me and they left....that's my life. I respect him for telling me his story in the hallways of city hall that time...and never forgot it. I"m 65 now and would love to circle back, but doubt if I'll ever get that chance to just have a chat about his life. Enjoyed this interview a lot having met the younger version of this dynamic man so long ago when he came down the hallway looking for Channel 36 and we met and I listened to his passion and plans. Rare moment in time...City of Compton missed an opportunity that time and I had to tell him they wouldn't pursue the chance to shoot video and see them on the courts at the county park. I wasn't happy about that either. And that was before video equipment was affordable for many of us. Camcorders weren't a thing back then...we used 3/4 format Sony U-matic portable decks with Ikegami tube cams that the city owned...we couldn't take them to do independent video naturally. I did shoot some vid of NWA in an alley another time with a coworker while they did the "F" the Police vid off Compton Boulevard. That footage has never been seen anyway. Friend has the master tape who worked with us so one day we'll digitize it maybe. IDK. My life has been six degrees of separation mostly. I enjoyed meeting him and his daughters though.

I don't know who told her she could handle such a powerful interview, but they mislead her because each time she opens her mouth to ask a question it is like she is at a carnival and is asking how is cotton candy made. Ugh. I sat through this low-grade interview only because I wanted to hear Mr. Williams. I could do without the interviewer.

The interviewer asked him, "Well why not be nicer?" "Why not be the bigger person?" I think Mr. Williams was trying to convey to her that it is not his responsibility to be nice.

Let me be very clear & very honest when I say there has never been a champion that has been more disrespected & discredited for their achievements & accomplishments than the Great Serena Williams. No One, not Pete Sampras & his Ok topspin backhand or Stefan Edberg & his unorthodox forehand or Steffi Graf & her rarely used topspin backhand or Monica Seles & her crablike footwork or any former champion & their not-so-great go-to-shot or underrated shot, No One has been horribly criticized more than the Great Serena Williams. And I'm tired of it. Serena Williams has won 20 Slam majors & is well on her way 2 tying Steffi Graf's 22 then breaking it & the All Time record of 24 by Australia's Margaret Court But some low life Haters are trying 2 discredit her Legend. These Losers & obvious Haters are trying but it won't matter if they keep trying 2 make us believe the current WTA tour is weak & inferior and that's why Serena Williams has been able 2 dominate her competition. It can't be because Serena has improved her overall game & cause she's more mentally & emotionally stronger than she was when she 1st became Number 1 in the world in 2002 at 21 years old. Of course, these Haters hate 2 hear that if Serena was a White American, those Haters would Love her & support her like they supported Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova & every other white non-American WTA player. I wish I was wrong but I'm an American & unfortunateIy I know these Haters have a lot of issues like most Americans. This is another reason why I'm SO Proud of Serena & Venus. Throughout All of the Hatred & lack of support from some of the white Amercan tennis fans. Serena & Venus have remained focused, strong & kept their eyes on the prize. There have definitely been a few bad moments along the way but they've remained positive & moved on from any professional disappointments & public scrutiny. They are the perfect role models for the young, non-Caucasian & really anyone. No matter what problems & negativity they've had 2 deal with they still remain positive & driven 2 succeed. I hope Serena breaks each & every WTA record. And I hope Venus can overcome her illness & win at least 1 more major title before she retires. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both sisters. : )
@terryj18009 жыл бұрын
Well said. Sharapova is paid more in endorsements, Rodger Federer who I might add is a great champion and wonderful person is revered, and treated like a king but Serena who might add has accomplished more than him at the same age is not given the same reverence. But I like the attitude of the William sisters. They rise above it all. They epitomize the first part of Maya Angelou poem, Still I Rise " You may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lies You may trod me in the very dirt but still, like dust, I'll rise. They have risen despite obstacles and I am so very proud of them.

This is so important for us black men this testimony. Black men determination for their kids is once they decide it, everything. Richard Williams, Matthew Knowles, Joe Jackson.... we all know that their path is different in each way as regard their behaviour and character. But We have to bare in mind that once you decide something while raising up your kids for something different for their life and change the world with their impact as a black father, We have to stay focussed overdetermined. Richard Williams book can be a bible to get the keys and the clues to reach success. We all know how people around are judgmental (family, friends, whoever), the influence of the surroundings can lead us to quit. But those black men followed their way. They did it. So as a black man, as a father of 2 daughters, it is an obligation for me to get this book. For my girls but above all... for me! Thanks Richard Williams

“Richard Williams on raising champions in tennis “-He was a Black family strategist and visionary. He speaks intelligently and confidently from his historical experience and mother’s matriarchal wisdom. As the father of Serena and Venus Williams, he spoke clearly and decisively to tell his story as a great father that led his daughters to their victories in life. He and his struggles and patriarchal dedication to his daughters success deserves more acknowledgement and study as an exceptional father and human being. As an “unsung hero prototype, his book should be revered and studied for the benefit of all men and Black men, in particular.
