Thank you. Is there anything stopping philosophers in consciousness from conducting their own studies and research that would add validity to or falsify their theories and hypotheses?

Interesting overview about this philosophical study of the mind. Since we know that there are many scientific disciplines which treat about the mind, especially the human mind, it would be really interesting knowing and understanding the current interaction between philosophy of mind and science of mind. Given that, science of mind as neuroscientific disciplines, neurobiology, neuropsychology, neurophysiology and others like cognitive science, psychology and so forth give us sufficient information about the nature of mind, objectively; maybe, it would be interesting understanding better the meaning of philosophizing about the mind in this current context. Many thanks!

I want to start by saying that the idea of these videos is awesome. Now I have a question about the marker you described as what makes something mental: it is my understanding that intentionality is a marker or a defining aspect of being mental. But is it not just 1 part of being mental? I mean is unintentional thought also part of being mental(i.e. subconscious) witch has a great impact on the mental process and it's properties? I stopped the video to type this , so excuse me if you have gone on and answered this after this portion.....

What can one do with a philosophy degree ?

+Shawn Afshar Somewhat interesting question. If you mean, like certain other degrees that they more or less guarantee you an entre into a profession as for example, and engineering degree or nursing degree might, or presumably should, this might not be so easy with a degree in philosophy -this certainly would be true for an undergraduate degree. Similarly with advanced degrees. Philosophy as an academic discipline is not about career and money like other departments are. Having said that, I would hasten to add that one might be able to do more with the KNOWLEDGE gained by a degree in philosophy, more perhaps even than one can do with a piece of paper stating that one is "educated," (one very specific and useful purpose comes to mind, which would apply to ANY piece of paper...) however well educated, on paper or otherwise. For example, one might learn to quantify the relative real values of these two alternatives for one's self.
