1. Take the visor clip off and use the clip to press the program button on the back of the remote until the LED light on the front of the remote turns on.
2. Press and release the learn button on the garage door opener motor.
3. Press and release the remote button you wish to program ___ times, as indicated above.
4. Press either of the other 2 buttons on the remote to exit programming mode.

Thanks! That was SO much simpler than that truly horrible Chamberlain video (which was so busy qualifying everything that it was impossible to follow). Pretty straightforward when you get right down to it: - before you start, identify the wire/button color on the opener (purple for me) which will determine the number of presses below - put the remote in program mode by pushing its program button - press the remote button you wish to program the number of times needed (2 for purple), then press another button - on the opener, press the learn button - on the remote, press the same remote button as above (the opener light should flash) - additional remote button presses should open or close the door

While doing some electrical work in my Garage I disconnected the Garage door opener from the outlet. After I was done I plugged the wire of the opener back into the outlet. I just recently purchased a Chamberlain 953EV-P2 & programmed the remote 2 days earlier which worked fine. Now all of a sudden the remote does not work. I tried several times to re-program the remote exactly like I did days earlier but for some reason the remote is not responding. Is there something I am not aware of or doing incorrectly? Is it possible to program a Chamberlin 3 button remote by using an opener you already have to a gate? The gate remote is an older style with the Dip Switches in it… I have one button already set for a garage door, however, I’d like to set the last two buttons for two gates we use. Hey Brian thanks for the comment! Unfortunately you can't program your remaining 2 buttons to the gate remote. If it was a Genie universal remote you could. They have a CLONE feature. Does your vehicle have the built in HomeLink? You could program that to accomplish what you want.

After you press the remote once after programming, the LED on the remote doesn't flash or blink? The reason I ask is that I've had remotes where the battery signal is so weak it triggers the opener once, but not enough juice to do it again. If you haven't changed the battery I would try that. Especially if you've done step by step and can get it to work at least once.

Huge thanks. The garage door at my other place took 15 seconds to program. At my new place, I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I remember it being an easy process, but didn't recall exactly what that process was. This video came through. One thing I messed up on was the color. The light was kind of a tennis ball color. I figured that as yellow, and kept trying to press one time. No luck. Then it hit me that it was green. Tried pressing 4 times, and viola!!!!

When I talking out of the clip a remote and I using the clip push down a remotes it on the light red, then I push the button color of a different with the machine and I click the remote but it’s flash by itself and sound the machines Garage door opener. I press remote again went it goes running the garage door open and close. Because I think it’s very easy for remote programming.

Unfortunately for use only with Chamberlain/LiftMaster 315 MHz or 390 MHz garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993. You need a Universal Remote from Chamberlain like this one. I tried it, hooked white to white and red to red, got the LEDs to light, so I know the connections were correct, but when I pressed the buttons, tried the light first, nothing, wouldn't open the doors either. Is there something I need to add, maybe a resistor, to get it to operate? I'd like to have a single controller to operate either door instead of two individual switches.

Wow - I just ordered this for my new car that does not have Homelink built in. I previously ordered the wrong remote due to the PURPLE button being so faded that I thought it might be ORANGE/BROWN, and that clicker did not work (since it was for ORANGE). I found out that the wire hanging down is the same color as the Learn button, and it is PURPLE. I hope this new 953EV remote works and is as easy as you showed. Crossing fingers. Subbed and Liked. You need to clear the memory on the opener (machine) you don't want to open. Press and hold the learn button until the LED goes out. Hope that's the answer you're looking for.

The receiver is taking a dive. That's where all your range comes from. Unfortunately it's either change out a circuit board or new opener.

I just purchased that exact remote and followed your steps, but nothing happens. I have a green learn button on the Liftmaster Professional Series manufactured in 1997. I've tried the directions in the box, and even tried other YT tutorials with no luck. Help!!

Man unfortunately it sounds like the receiver on the circuit board is toast. Meaning it will not pick up the signal. Green learn button = old unit. You're probably doing it right. It's a long shot but did you clear the memory on the opener?

Black learn button? Chamberlain Liftmaster doesn't have a model with a black learn button. Is it a Genie? Typically, if a garage door won't close it's because something is interfering the sensors.

k so the black button was just a really dirty purple button, we got it programed to go up but the when trying to get the door to go down it will only close a little bit and then stop. press the button again and it closes for a little bit and stops. I have three doors similar to yours in the video. I have 3 of the same controllers. For clarity I will refer to them by the numbers 1, 2 and 3. Controllers 2 and 3 work fine. They are separated by approximately 50’. Controller 1 is a problem child. It was programed last. It is approximately 10’ from controller 2. After programing controller 1 many times, the same way I program controllers 2 and 3, I get the same wrong results. When I programed controller 1 with button 2, it appears fine. When I push button 2 on controller 1 it also controls door 1. When both doors are closed using controller 1 and button 2 both doors open together. When I try to stop them, the door gets out of sync, 1 continues to open while the other door closes. When pushing either button 1 or 2, [it doesn’t matter which both doors will change their travel direction]. Will you give me instructions on how to fix this problem?

I'm not sure I understood this video. Does it mean the opener can only be programmed to one code? So if you repeat the process with the other two buttons all will work the same? So, if your neighbor's remote opens your door there's nothing you can do about it?

You can program up the three doors with these remotes. If your neighbor remote is opening your door all you do is just clear the memory on your unit (garage door opener)and then reprogram your remotes. Clearing the memory will wipe out any signal that has been programmed into the unit.

I agree. My opener has the purple button. In the past the directions on the back of my Chamberlin Garage Opener worked fine. My new opener required the button under the clip to be pressed as demonstrated in the video but the instructions on the open don't mention it. Very happy to be educated by this video. I was going to return the remote and I am, sure the remote instructions would show it but I have programmed remotes for relatives and house guests for years the old way. I didn't read or keep the remote instructions (my fault) The directions in the video worked perfect. Thank you Garage Door Genius.

Only works once. It will go up once but not down; clear the codes, reprogram, it goes down but not up. Door works fine with wall switch so not the door tension.

I have the same clicker, but a genie, i can connect it to my ford fusion just fine but for whatever reason the chamberlain wont work😭😭

It's the exact same process. Except you use a different button on the remote. 👍🏼
