Richard, I recently discovered your channel. Great videos, there are really not so many decent channels devoted to traditional inking techniques. Thanks so much for uploading, really high-quality stuff, keep it up!

Why isn't stippling employed more ? The time it takes or other reasons such as printing ?

hey Rich, great video once again, question: would you guess bernie wrightson did pencil crosshatching and that he would then ink over that in his pieces or he would probably do crosshatching only in the inking stage? i ask because while practicing with a micron i did some crosshatching in pencil before and it would fade the ink when i erase the pencils. is it better to have the technique down and apply crosshatching with either brush or rapidographs in the ink stage only?

Fernando Sebastian yeah I would for sure do the pencils first you don't have to do all the hatches but you definitely want to know where you want your fade to lay. if you look at the pencil examples in the open that book episodes you can see that he scribbles it out. even when I do my black drawings I will lay in maybe 50 to 60% of what I want down in pencil. at least for the hatching, but I will do full drawings. if that makes sense. the drawings are complete I just don't do every single hatch that I'm going to do, if I know it's going to be a fade. if you have light enough pencils I personally wouldn't erase them. If you're more heavy-handed then just use that peppermint eraser that I use!! I think it's listed in my desk organization videos

I do try and keep the demo's casual to some extent. I could really do super tight fades and edit anything that didn't go my way on a first take.. Doing the conversation about the technique, filming it, and working around the set up is challenging...but I think it's keeps the in reach of people/ You can see even a slightly casual approach or like "fun" drawing can achieve some serious effect...the line between what I am calling beginner and intermediate is very fine right now...the advanced stuff I will do will be no joke and I won't be so "casual" with the results...but it's fun to work up to that.

I'm no Richard Friend, but why don't you try lightening the pencils with a kneaded eraser before you ink them? After you have inked the light pencils, use one of those super soft and smooth high quality erasers that are not abrasive.
