FULL DYNO RESULTS-PSI FOR THE OTHER GUY! 292 GETS BOOST! WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE COMBINE A CHEAP CXRACING TURBO WITH A HOME-MADE TURBO SYSTEM USING THE STOCK EXHAUST MANIFOLD? CAN WE MAKE CHEAP POWER WITH THE STOCK MANIFOLD? WILL IT SUPPLY ENOUGH BOOST? HOW WELL DOES THE CHEAP TURBO WORK? WILL THE 1966, HIGH-MILEAGE TRUCK MOTOR SURVIVE?

I love my twin turbo ls 5.3 1200hp But my favorite engines I built was my 1950 235 inline with a weiand supercharger on it. It would turn heads at back to the fifties in st Paul and street machine national's like crazy!! With that blower off to one side and it made over 350hp . 30 over mcgurk pistons a berry's cam Clifford manifold modified and Clifford true length headers and HEI ignition. And the dumb ass I sold it too put a 350 and turbo 350 trans in it!!! Cool you just made it like all the rest boring!!!!!

That would be great. I dont even watch the LS stuff. Yeah, it's tough, its fast, its everywhere, but I'm sick of em. I wanna see what can be done with old, quirky, antiquated, obsolete technology. More of an engineering challenge. It would be much harder (and more expensive) to try to build a 400hp FLATHEAD than a 2000hp LSX. How much is a set of repop Ardun hemi heads for a flattie? $5000 with the valvetrain?

Yes! I love to see it. You know, even with that big turbo, the soggy response probably helps make power SBE. If you had a smaller 3-400 hp turbo that came in earlier, you'd hit the motor with more torque (cylinder pressure) and maybe hurt the bottom end. But! Imagine someone with a dirt simple old truck or 4 door nova or something. A setup like this could push that thing into the 13s or maybe even 12s for very very little money! That's value right there.

Seems like around 73-74-75, Chevy designers copied the Ford small block 6 head/integrated intake manifold design for the 250’s. In 1979, they revamped the 250 for the light truck line with a “half Quadra jet” 2 bbl carb and split exhaust manifolds. That motor was a nifty idea but the motors’ longevity was pretty short. A couple of relatives bought new C10s with that new 6, and neither got much over 60K miles out of them before a rod dropped. It’s nice watching how these mods on a stock bottom end and valve train double the horsepower. Imagine a committed approach. I’m with the viewers who are interested in how this works on a Ford 300.

There are "better" performance intake manifolds out there. Larger runners, equal length. I'd love to see what a manifold upgrade on this little beast would do. Excited for cam and valve job.

Amazing how much power comes with technology, example I have a Ford Falcon FG 2008 turbocharged twin cam 4.0l inline 6 (Barra) so almost 1L less and on 10 psi she makes 378hp at the hubs. Great video too, would be cool if you did a cam, intake, carby and smaller turbo or maybe with the cam and intake it may be a lot better.

Had someone comment that Chevy made port fuel injection available for these engines. though true, they also remanufactured the cylinder head to one with an integrally cast intake manifold similar to what ford did with their 170/200/250 six cylinder engines. Engines offered in the U.S. were relegated to carburation. Fuel injection for the amalgamated head design was only offered in Brazil, never in the U.S.. I love your test on the 292 but would dearly like to see an aftermarket intake and much larger cam. Perhaps in the 0.550-0.575 lift range With some screw in studs and valve springs. A lot of old timers removed the bolt stantion from the intake port and spot faced the floor of the intake port. The head was attached with a short cap screw and hardened washer. The top hole was plugged with a screw in pipe plug using a sealant to prevent intake leaks. Simple trick for increased intake flow. These old engines responded extremely well to basic mods including larger valve sizes and good head porting. Eagle makes a rod for these engines and I believe a crank can be had if special ordered from them. Good pistons can be had from several reputable piston manufacturers. Properly built these old engines will freely rev over seven thousand rpm reliably. At these rpm levels they loose their tractor like sound and sound more like a really pissed off bee. Lol Great work your doing. Could a ford 300 be done in the future.

I built a 250 version 30 years ago crower sportsman rods for the small block chevys are made to strait six journal width and machined down for the v8s and for 250 motors the 307 v8 pistons are correct bore and pin hight(i used 12-1 slugs and milled off some dome for a cheap 10.5-1 piston) valve relieve angles dont match up but i still had enough clearance to run a upper .600 lift cam if wanted..... Add lump port plates and a 4 bbl intake you have a 300+hp n/a motor (12bolt has a few videos of motors like mine with out the upgrades) and in my case a 3 fogger direct port progressive NOS KIT... 150-200 shot......i figure a 450-500 strait 6 will hurt feelings and crush egos.......

Funny you mention Checkers: the Cory and Justin of the Sloppy Mechanics boys put a boosted 4200 in a Checker Marathon that, while not dynoed yet on-video, I feel pretty confident saying they probably pulled off doubling the HP at the crank at least.

@@andrewstewart1464 I only said that because I didn't know how much HP a stocker had and if a newer one is 265 or something I questioned going over 500 with stock bottom end.idk but Checkers are sweet old rides when you dont paint them like a taxi!🙂

Richard seeing your playing with sixes could you please do a blow through slant 6 engine ! With a snail or torque storm centrifugal blower . Would be a good comparison between the 2 as a lot of folk are really getting into the slants but the biggest killer are the ports on these but with boost they can make some decent power for the street. Cheers and keep up with the great contribution to us gear heads .

Keep the turbo, put it after the headers. Better flowing intake, EFI system that can control the AFR and boost better. I bet that can turn the internals to scrap metal. I like a straight six!!
