@@blaqlabspodcast5816 Atlas heads flow so well, the block and heads are so light vs cast iron so will be perfect for any streeter wanting more hp and tq at lower psi than any JZ can achieve so great choice. Im even thinking a great replacement for diesel 6 toyotas that are so overpriced junk. I have looked at the Toyota HZ engine which have 94mm bores while Atlas is 93mm bore and all the studs match up, oil and water can be matched with oil feed re-routed using fitting and a copper line and heads converted to Belt driven using a block off plate above the front cam caps, all doable. Then would need custom pistons, rods and ready for boost using shorter 100m forged diesel crank but 1mm larger bores can only be a good thing. That would cost the same as buying and rebuilding a thrashed Jz motor or rebuild price of a HZ stock motor but would Troll Toyota "JZ" fanboys to the grave with 4.2 "HZ" as these engines are boat anchors yet still fitted to latest Cruisers for last 30 years.

It probably could but that doesn't mean it should. They weren't meant for it even though they came in a 5500lb suv. For how much work it is I would be way more trusting in a 5.3l ls turbo. I know it's all been done before but lots of guys use what works. If I was being really adventurous I would use the 4.3l LV3 v6 that's based on Gen5 engines. The guys at btr say the stock LT1 injectors are good to 950hp with gasoline, that's over 700hp on a six. They have DoD and Vvt. Stock they make as much power (almost) as the 06+ engines with 30 more ft/lbs of torque. The Gen5 blocks, even the aluminum delios, are really rugged and these engines have forged cranks. For a work truck that is going to hammer miles it might be worth it just to save some fuel. The 11.0:1 squeeze and that it runs on four cylinders when you're just rolling would make it my choice.

im an aussie who owns a factory turbo barra and honestly dont know why use arnt using this engine more i would love to have these in Australia

Very entertaining and fun to look at! 👍 Will you test it with twin scroll? Since its a six cyl that should be wise!? Maybe the stock manifold pointing up and a two pipe adapter!? Another suggestion: hook up EGT on all six exhaust pipes and tune the engine cylinder compensated!? I have seen impressive hp gain even on moderate boost! 💪👌

Would switching to ls style coils like Calvin did help with the spark issue?

I'm pretty sure not bathing the bottom half of the wires in 2" of oil will help just as much.

Really need to play with cam timing under boost. Any n/a vvt engine I've tuned needs different vvt angles once you get over 5ish psi. You may have even seen some gains with different vvt after you installed the header.
@kensmechanicalaffair3 жыл бұрын
How would he get vvt on a non vvt engine?

The 4200's have vvt on the exhaust cam.

Can you literally see the vacuum lines actuating the wastegate controlling the boost? Are those those pulses? Circa @7:50?
@richardholdener17272 жыл бұрын
LITERALLY! THAT IS THE AIRFLOW FROM THE DYNO FAN
@ordersforsplitdogs43152 жыл бұрын
@@richardholdener1727 I don’t think it is-the fan stays at a constant velocity. Why do they stop pulsing when the throttle is let off?

I know you're thinking valve cover gasket for the how the oil made it into the sonder but I'm more along the lines of the oil made it past the Rings when the vehicle was upside down if you want to get that oil out of the Rings I would suggest running some seafoam through the intake manifold maybe that might help
@richardholdener17273 жыл бұрын
the oil got into the plug/coil pack wells after we cleaned them-it definitely cam from the valve cover

Ok, so off the top of my head I've thought of a few cars I'd love to see this swap go into...any early square body S-10, the mid 80s AMC Eagle in a 2WD configuration (unless the 4WD can be adapted to work), a Chevy Luv, or a Chevy Monza or Vega.

As an owner of 3 Barra powered cars, one a 800hp turbo. Change the valve springs, they will be too weak to hold much boost. To fix themissfire, Gap the plugs to 0.7mm and I run a volts booster for the factory coils that runs 18v when the boost >5psi, triggered by a hobbs switch. Please up the boost as much as possible without opening the engine. I want to see what it can do. I predict 800hp with valve springs.

I'm still trying to figure out why when it was tested NA the long tube header did nothing over the stock manifold. Makes no sense.
@aDaWaN3 жыл бұрын
Probably because of the short duration camshafts. With longer duration camshafts and more overlap the header will start to make a difference.
@slyrie693 жыл бұрын
That and gm dose alot of r&d into airflow for factory engines so there headers are useually really great and they leave alot of room for power improvement in tuning all gm vehicles are like that
@timothybayliss66803 жыл бұрын
That factory manifold looks pretty good. I am really surprised that it didn't make a shed more torque through the middle. You would think with the exhaust cam retarded as far as it could go it would make the header even more important.
@gonyoujeremy95963 жыл бұрын
GM purposely designed the exhaust ports to be restrictive and called it passive EGR. A head port and cams is good for 50 HP
