I first read his book in 1974 - to help me pass exams - and I've been using it ever since. It has given me a lucrative contract training bank workers, I've taught the methods in night class, it helps me learn my lines as an actor, and I'm currently teaching the stuff to a group of performers I'm touring with. I still couldn't memorize 500 names in a single sitting though. Harry is the boss!

It's May 2022 and Harry is still alive. He just turned 96. And I saw an interview with him within the last year. He suffers from arthritis but his mind is just as sharp.

He almost made it to 97. One of the true legends of magic. It is my opinion that he took Vernon a step further. And he was a whole lot nicer!

I've been looking for the 7 22 58 show-- SO CLOSE, damn. Our neighbor in cuba John Schisler, had been one of the 10 men kidnapped by the Castro rebels for 12 days. He worked for Moa Bay Mining company, as did my father. -- If you ever locate that one please notify me.

Google says Steve Lawrence is 85, but was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's in 2019. Eydie Gorme died in 2013. Garry Moore died in 1993 at the age of 78. Harry is 95.

Well, I can't wait, to watch this. I've seen a more recent('70s)appearance, by Mr. Lorayne, who'd taught NBA'er, Jerry Lucas, the technique. I believe they co-authored a book. I can't remember whose show but, I do recall the audience, of about three hundred souls, was standing. He instructed, "when I say your name, please, be seated." In a few minutes, even after passing on and, then, coming back to a few individuals, the whole audi-ence was, indeed, seated. Amazing! Oh-and, one thing, more: never, have I heard anything/anyone referred to, as, "partially, unique"(unique, being, "one, of a kind"). Mr. Moore's acknowledgement, of the book, WAS funny; didn't seem forced/rehearsed, at all. I wish I could tell him, so.

Absolutely unique. Despite the many books that Harry Lorayne has written on memory work, I have NEVER seen this act replicated. And I'd take a little guess that I never will. Harry Lorayne is also (in my honest opinion) the greatest author of card magic material it's ever been my pleasure to study - as well as being an absolutely brilliant performer.

Barry, i read your response on an old weekly magic failure post berating Harry Lorayne and I fully agreed with every word of yours. You're not looking to mentor anyone are you? I've taken to magic at 45 and am a serious student. But like you said...so many utter twats. Would've been great to mert/see you perform!

We call them "Eselsbrücken" (donkey bridges) in German, and they're quite useful. I used them all the time studying Latin vocabulary. You could build a sentence involving something that sounds like the vocabulary and has something to do with its translation, that is so odd that you just have to remember it. Sometimes they start with the same letter, you can use that, sometimes there actually is a German word that comes from Latin that is still similar to the translation - either way, I barely know how to learn vocabulary without such tricks. When I studied Finnish, I never found any (or was too lazy to think of something) and guess what: I barely remember any words at all. Finnish has about seven different adjectives for great/fine/wonderful, something like that, and I can't recall a single one.

We used to do something like first day of school. Memorize all the names of all the students in the classroom, then call out someone to remember them all (as many as 36). Then we'd mix them up. See if anyone could get them correct but out of the initial order. Nothing like this scale, but it worked most of the time. Over a couple of days I'd forget a lot of the names and had to learn them again. Each student would say the names of all the students up to themselves with some key word like Marilyn who likes music, Juan who likes to wander. Probably a technique learned from Harry Lorayne.

The best part is he didn't get Boring while calling the name.. Such a flare he has. I just wish there were more of his memory acts on the youtube. There are only very few and the is not any reason for such. He has performed all over the world and still not so many videos here as one might guess.
