This song will always remind me of a girl I met one summer before I had to go home. The morning after saying goodbye to her, I was on the way to the airport and this came on the radio. We wrote back and forth for a year before losing touch. I found her on Facebook 28 years later. She's married with three kids and I'm married with two.

She stopped because I had signed up to go to the Air Force. I set going in the military in motion right before we met. But looking back, it was for the best. I don’t blame her for not wanting a relationship with someone who is in town maybe once a year. I lived great experiences. I was stationed in the UK and got to travel.

This song makes me cry because it reminds me of my mom and dad. Neither had great childhoods. Toxic family and really needed the good that each other brought. My dad died young - 29 from injuries as a result of teens drag racing drunk and striking my dad’s taxi. He drove it to help pay off medical bills from one of my siblings. My mom had just found out she was pregnant with me the day of the accident. My mom never got over the loss of her soulmate. But she did the best she could for me and my siblings. She fought breast cancer twice but the second time after a long battle, she was reunited with my dad. This song was pretty popular several months after my mom passed away and it has always struck me as the story of my dad waiting for my mom and how my mom felt about missing him. In the end, my dad came for her and walked with her to heaven. Right before she slipped into the coma before she passed, my mom was talking to him and it was like he was sitting right there with her ~ together again. Forever & Always.

He has a natural gift that can’t be taught. You can just feel the emotion in his voice and lyrics. I can never get tired of Richard and all of the beautiful music he makes. If you get the chance, see him in concert. Well worth it.
