A mildly interesting fact is that growing up in Australia in the sixties, going for a thrill ride, or even putting your foot down was known as "fanging it", or going for a "fang". This was slang derived from when Fangio raced in Australia in the Fifties. Even now the saying has survived with undoubtedly few people being aware of it's origins

I love and appreciate all your content Richard, especially your shop work and passion for the classics! BTW, German silver or nickel silver is a type of brass: being an alloy of copper and nickel.

I liked this so much I'm happy to say, it was even better the second time. Well researched and presented by a truly passionate car guy. Thank you! I can only hope that the ultra rich who purchase these will share them with the world and not tuck them away in storage or their massive 'garage'. Stunning automotive art for sure. Hard to pick a favorite they are all stunning. Like you I'm a fan of the touring bodied Alfa 6c. Imagine wafting through northern Italy or the south of France in such a car.

German silver is not silver. It is an alloy of copper zinc and nickel.

The word "spider" is probably a misunderstanding. At the beginning of 20th century probably an english car with the name "speeder" was imported in Italy. At that time much of italians had a low level of english language and the name was written "spider".
@waynebrinker80952 жыл бұрын
In the opening you state that the Daimler Cabriolet, Star of India, is made of silver......Sterling Silver. 05:16 you say it is made of German Silver.....an alloy comprised of copper, zinc, and nickel.....no silver........0% silver. Also known as nickel silver, it has many applications, but it is silver only in colour. Great video. Thanks so much.

Great detail on the history of the cars that you covered. Thanks for the presentation. You could let go of the term "pretty unique" as it is meaningless. Either a car is unique or it is not. But otherwise I'd love to hear more coverage of these great classics.

Apparently no recession in the collector market. RMO - you swept by one of my favorite Ferrari - the 288 GTO - please don't do that again ! - love to hear what you might say. (Alain De Cadenet does a great review of this car on KZbin for other enthusiasts) Otherwise - great shots of a great show - Grateful for the post !

I really enjoyed the video Richard. Well done! I was interested in seeing the De Tomaso Sport 5000. I'd never heard of the Mugello road race circuit before only the modern circuit. A google search shed some light on that for me. I'm guessing it could be eligible for the Goodwood Revival can-am/gt40 race which would be fun to see even if it would undoubtedly be uncompetitive. The Talbot -Lago is just one of the most beautiful cars I've seen. So many pre war French coachbuilt cars were drop dead gorgeous.

Over 7 million dollars for a single car? One could hire a fleet of taxi-cans 24/7, on demand, resident at one's abode, for the rest of one's natural life, if the purpose of vehicles were mere locomotion!

@@RichardMichaelOwen If you're reacting to VW-based SS-100s, I'ld agree, but I mean models identical to the original, If you want to use the cars as they were, which is better to risk; a real piece of history, or a faithful facsimile?
@RichardMichaelOwen2 жыл бұрын
@@parrotraiser6541 there's a wide range of replicas, recreations for sure. I'm interested in original nuts and bolts driving down the road.

Awesome. But I prefer excavators. Bought rare komatsu wb97s 2008 half a year ago - absolutely stunning - all 4 wheels are moving, all this hydraulic cylinders etc - much more interesting to operate that masterpiece than all this crap
