After the first season of Carroll's term as Seahawks coach, I was on vacation in Italy and while on a train talked to a guy from San Diego. We talked about football and he was concerned about the Chargers relocating (poor guy) but he was also a USC fan and assured me that Pete Carroll was going to do great things for my team. When we won the Superbowl I immediately thought about that conversation and I'm thinking about it now. Best coach our team ever had. Now because of his age I figured it was only a matter of time before we would get a new coach, but this still is hitting hard. Can't help but feel if we had beat the Steelers two weeks ago and got into the playoffs that maybe we would have gotten another year with Pete. The Seahawks mattered with Holmgren and with Carroll and that coincidently means that we've mattered throughout the 21st century thus far. But I can't help but think of what the franchise was like before that. With a change like this you can't help but fear you go back into a dark age. Anyway, I'm suddenly much more interested in the coaching vacancies. This isn't the same as following Bill Belichick in New England but it's still a huge act to follow. Now I'm thinking of the possibility of Jim Harbaugh replacing Pete and how ironic that would be after all the bad blood between the two of them. Maybe Pittsburgh will lose on Sunday and they'll fire Tomlin and we can get him. With my luck Sirianni will get fired and we'll get stuck with him.

Sometimes, change is necessary. Hawks have to change everything. Mainly, let's become more offensive-minded; let's stop being so predictable in our offensive and defensive schemes; throw the ball more; go back to a 4-3 defense; stop relying on miracle 4th quarter wins after being down 2.5 scores the entire game; close out games in the 3rd quarter so you can have an easy 4th quarter; go for it more on 4th down; more discipline versus motivation. Let's get Dan Quinn, bring him back home.
