100% agree…. The idea behind it, which is almost always some version of making it a one score game, ignores the fact there are still a bunch of possessions left in the game. The smarter move IMO is to take the PAT unless the game situation demands you need to go for 2
@donbgon

Exactly. It's so stupid. It never works out not taking the points. The team will probably kick some field goals. Take the damn points.
@mrmacross
@mrmacross Күн бұрын
It's specifically a 4th quarter strategy, when you're probably only going to get the ball 1-2 more times (barring recovering an onside kick) and you absolutely need a defensive stop to win anyway. The idea is you figure at some point you have to go for two, and the sooner you go for two, you can better gameplan how to manage the clock and use your timeouts. Another way of saying it is it's better to miss on your two-point attempt with nine minutes to go then to miss that two-point attempt with 15 seconds left.
@samore11
@samore11 17 сағат бұрын
No it's a direct analysis called dynamic programming based on possessions remaining that tell whether or not it increases your chances of winning by going for 2 or kicking the PAT

Fortunately mine let me turn most of them off. I rented a car last month and there was a new one that I'm not sure if I like or not - had a long stop and of course as soon as my attention wandered it started moving again and the car gave a little chime to let me know the car in front of me had moved. TBH it's better than a horn from the car behind me.

My condo neighbor is like the rest of us: tired of the nonsense noises when backing up, so she ignored them and backed right into my car as I was going by. Then I had my bike rack in my other car and it REFUSED to back up until I got out the owner's manual and learned the magic handshake needed to turn the darned things off. Maybe we're better off without them, or at least just having one button to easily turn them all off for a while.

He is absolutely correct on Self Driving cars...And there is literally nothing to stop it. And the more technology inside, the less you own it. Courts in the US have already stated that you may own the "car", but the company owns all the technology and don't have to release information on it to you or your mechanic, as it is their IP, meaning you really no longer own your car.

If it's the first half, why not kick the extra point? The other team will probably kick a field goal or two in the second half.
@mrmacross
@mrmacross Күн бұрын
But assuming you only have two possessions left, you have to go for two regardless. I think the only benefit of going for two on the second possession instead of the first is psychological, as in it's a huge deflator if you fail and you have like six minutes left of football left to play. On the flip side, it's a big boost if you do convert, and if you've got an aggressive coach, you can outright win the game in regulation if you score a TD and convert another 2-point conversion. The reason the analytics guy say go for two earlier (and this only applies to the 4th quarter) is because you can gameplan around the clock and your remaining timeouts and the two-minute warning a little easier. It's not a huge advantage, though. Whether you fail for two in the middle of the 4th or at the end, you probably have to attempt an onside kick anyway, which is always low percentage. But generally, the earlier you know you have to kick an onside kick, the better.

I despise the 2-point conversion to tie the game in the second quarter. Apparently, the stupid (and I mean (STUPID) analytics geeks disagree, which is why we saw not ONE, but TWO teams (Washington and Buffalo) do that this past weekend and fail both times. Imagine how that KC/Buffalo game plays out at the end if the Bills had even one more point on the board when the game was tied late. It's probably at least a little different.
