Steve Young has LONG been Lamar's staunchest defender, because he saw the big picture of what Lamar was capable of. Our organization hasn't truly cared about making the passing game any kind of 'stand on its own' type of threat, in 25 years. We want to stop the run, run the ball, stop the pass, play good Special Teams and THEN maybe we'll look into the passing game. It was never about what Lamar could and couldn't do. He played in a Pro style passing offense at Louisville. It was our organization that just didn't care enough about the passing game. Thankfully, Lamar put their feet to the fire and changes were made. And even still, it's not as if we have the best passing scheme in the league, or best WRs in the league. They're just better than the bottom 5 groups he was accustomed to. That's just how great he is.

A million thank yous to Steve Young! He has been the ONLY MSM personality who has been saying for at least a year or two that the problems the Ravens have had on offense were fundamentally rooted in the Ravens ORGANIZATION, not Lamar. And what got FIXED this year was organizationally, and that includes key personnel boosts in drafting Zay, acquiring OBJ and Agholor, and the emergence of Isaiah Likely. The light finally came on in the Ravens front office. And the results speak for themselves.

that's one way to look at it, steve has always advocated that to truly unlock lamar's potential (in this case win a super bowl) he would have to become a sophisticated passer not just a sophisticated runner. teams solve him in the playoffs but now Lamar is doing the adjustments. Ravens are still #1 in rush attempts despite all the changes. Must be tough to lean into what you think gives you the best chance at winning while at the same time thinking towards what you should move towards and then trying to execute it consistently. They will need better QB play against Mahomes than what was put up against the Texans in the first half to move onto the SB. But then again, Ravens defense might knock Mahomes out.

Remember, Offense is the part that scores the points, not your "defense"! The way the NFL is presently set up, the days of low-scoring games are behind us. Because of the present National Flag-football League ('NFL') it is harder to shut down teams with 'big hits'/tough tackles from defense. Offense has to put up scores.

Try understanding the relevance of statistics before using them: "scoring offense" means next to nothing if you are like Dolphins cowardly putting up unnecessary 70 points on the lowly Broncos, while Ravens will RIGHTLY pull Lamar in 4th Quarter when it is clear that the opponents have 'had enough' scored on them and convincing them that they are done.

Total respect for Steve Young. Nonetheless, he's wrong about Lamar. Players can't transform who they are. Players can't study and take coaching and change their skills and abilities. Lamar will always be a great runner and a mediocre passer. The film shows he does not anticipate receivers coming open. He's often late or early seeing them. That is a PROCESSING skill which is almost impossible to radically improve. Not 100% impossible, but very rarely happens.
