Its been about year since I reacted to a Dr. Glaucomflecken video and I think I am due.

My human/moral side says that you should help during the turnover. My hospital employee side is citing all the regulations that insist that if you are not contracted to do a certain work you are prohibited to do it. I struggle with this concept every day, because it triples the time every single task takes.

Usually this is a union problem. I remember when my Dad told us about employees having to sit around waiting for an electrician to come plug a machine in so they get back to work. There was nothing wrong with it the plug had just come out but union rules.

If surgeons want fast turnovers: 1. Make sure your preference cards are extremely accurate and up to date for the surgeries you perform. That means which sutures (and how many), special instruments (that means you need to be aware of whats in the sets your service uses), and not having us open unnecessary supplies (the more we have to open, the longer it takes to get ready and the potential for contamination or a break in sterility goes up). 2. Keep your surgery time within or under the scheduled time. If you go over your alloted time to do your case, it might mean staff turnover at the end of the day which will destroy your flow. It also makes the following patients nervous when the time for their surgery passes and they aren't underway. Then they ask more questions and need to be calmed. 3. Most importantly: DON'T THROW SUTURE OR PIECES OF CEMENT OR PATIENT ON THE FLOOR!!! We have to clean that up!! And the more crap you drop on the floor, the longer it takes to clean it up! And PLEASE don't try to help us!! Even those surgeons that used to be nurses or techs have forgotten how to clean effectively and its really sad to watch. Funny, but sad. And time consuming. Best if you go talk and mark your next patient and make sure ALL your h&p's are up to date.

I worked with an anesthesiologist who was totally awesome - Dr Brad Silver. He said RACE stood for Run And Catch Elevator lol!

During a fire usually elevator is not a great idea if you have healthy legs, especially since in a hospital there will be lots of people who cant use the stairs and have to be evacuated with the elevator.. fire safety is one of the main reasons there have to be stairs in every building.

@@RioRav actually it’s a joke on his end! RACE of course stands for Rescue, Activate Alarm, Contain, Extinguish Fire. The only time I ever had to actually leave a hotel for fire alarm was when I was working in Nashville as a temporary extra staff RN in a rehab facility and I was exhausted after working 6 12 hour shifts and it was my last night in the hotel. The alarm sounded, I was sleeping as it were naked in bed and I couldn’t wrap my brain around the sound because I thought it was my alarm to get up. Took me a few minutes to figure it out then whip clothes on, grab purse and run 12 flights down and out. And -- this was all for burning popcorn at 2 am.

Surgeons can be so rude to coworkers and have a god complex 99.9% of the time. It's insane. I don't understand why a lot of them forget that they're humans. Kudos to the 5 super nice surgeons out there in the world.

That kind of gift is great. Where it becomes a problem is if the nominal value of the gift is significant.

I work at a VA Hospital. Can confirm, we have the whole RACE and PASS thing, too. When we're asked about what they stand for, we even have a handy little card on our lanyards with everything spelled out. No one remembers to look at the card, though.

Bartolomew banks, doesn’t even exist in Canada. The equivalent would be an extremely overweight character called Socially von Roverment who would move very slow and struggle to form a sentence

So so many tools. The different tools make the impossible possible. Like… for example, a tool to sew two pieces of bowel together through a skin incision 1cm big

@@RichHilsden My personal favourite is the little basket you put ie. the rotten appendix pieces in, no idea what is its name in English but during my surgery,the surgeon tried to convince me it was called a poopee scoopee (I was awake and bored, didn't know yet then that in two years I'll finally figure out that medicine is and always was my true calling). Pretty certain that's not the case but why argue with a cute guy with a wire in your aorta, right? What is the name of the little laparoscopic surgery basket with a string thingy used to fish out the removed parts out of patients abdominal cavity,Sir?

I think all of us corporate peons try to get through our modules as fast as possible. And yes we do pay people to do them for us. I don't even ever try to drive a forklift, yet I am forklift certified every year. The rest is common sense. I laugh so much because my male coworkers fail 2-3 times the sexual harassment test. They aren't bad people and I don't take offence. They are just dumb. Lol it's all the new terms.

ohhhh man the day is out of the surgeon/physicians hands... lol... I work in cath lab and nurse and scrub TAVR, Mitra and every other case... and many times as team lead I would call.... hey you have a 730 case...where are you its 730... oh I'm in the parking lot... my response...at which hospital... lol.... but yeah the turn over can be a pain in the ass... especially with a messy case your cleaning up after.

I think you do not have to force yourself to do these little voice changes. You can just use your normal voice. From your demeanour, it is clear you do not do it naturally. So it feels weird. Calm soothing voice, I think, would suit you better like your natural voice. It would feel more authentic.
