The show, CLOSE - SPONTANEITY AND SYHNCHRONICITY, explores the relationship between human creativity and the innovative technologies that enable an artist to express themselves. In its first year, the show was voted Best Live Performance 2017 at the DJ Awards. Having debuted the concept at Coachella followed by shows at Primavera Sound, ADE and Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House, CLOSE opens up the DJ booth for a transparent masterclass in Spontaneity & Synchronicity. It represents how far the art of DJing can be pushed today, thanks to a completely improvised performance which means no two shows are the same.

You can’t hate on Richie for pushing DJ’ing forward I listened to a lecture he had at the University of Michigan he did in 2002 and when Final Scratch and Ableton were just coming out. He said back then he was more about creating something new, than just playing 2 tracks together and he wouldn’t be using turntables in the future. I think he’s achieved that, who knows where it will go in the future.

What an amazing concept! I am sooo happy to have seen you grow and change and morph thru these decades. I was hooked the the first time i heard 'Sheet One' in late 94. I've loved every second of live set i've been lucky enough to catch, but this latest CLOSE show truly has, yet again, set a new high bar. Simply phenomenal, i can not wait to catch it again.....please come to the south-west US as soon as you can (Phoenix last year was amazing!! we need you again)

I’m not looking for multitouch of traktor, and I don’t want to buy another piece of hardware if I already invested in something that has many purposes and can be used in a different way. My current setup is running Ableton headless with Push 2 from a rack of synths, but I still want to dip in on a screen from time to time

toby mcmillan it's basic sobel filter. Actually it's not as "abstract" as he's saying. It's Rutt Etra, Optical flow and Sobel. At one point there's like a hint of Delunay triangulation, so if you google all that stuff, you can make something much interesting in basic video editing software in an hour.
