Richie Sambora | Live at Circus Krone | Munich 2012

The very short solo tour for Richie's solo album "Aftermath of the Lowdown" which was announced on an even shorter notice. By now, we all know why that had been the case. However, he still rocked the Kronebau in Munich that night! When he launched into the opening chords of I'll Be There For You, the whole place went mad! Those were louder cheers than I had probably heard at any of my 12 Bon Jovi gigs. During Fallen From Graceland, the singer of the Swiss band "Undiscovered Soul" started running from the rafters down to the stage (from the left side in this video angle) and jumped on it faster than the band realized. Richie didn't really know how to handle it at first, it felt a bit weird to say the least. Be aware that not the entirety of the show has been recorded, it's about 90 minutes worth of material! Still, while cutting in a few seconds into the songs, there are no cuts inbetween and most of Richie's material is basically completely featured! The only one that's sadly (almost completely) missing is You Can Only Get So High which later on became one of my all-time favourites! Other than that, I think only parts of the Hungry Heart interlude and Golden Slumbers in the encore aren't featured.
This show was filmed from the nosebleeds, meaning really the upper row on the opposite side of the building. It was done by a good friend of mine, so if you hear some annyoing singing from time to time, that's most likely me then :D
The sound mix was a bit muddy and the location meant that all kinds of noises inebetween stage and the filmer got picked up, but after some work, I think it's decent and especially the lower end comes through nicely. Filmed with a digital photo camera, there was some automatic audio levelling (meaning that the recording level was lowered as the band was louder), leading to the cheering having been louder as the music. I manually tried to adjust all these parts, it still may be slightly noticeable in some spots. It's the first time the original 720p files see the light of day! I've never done a premiere with 50fps material before, so no idea if that works well :D

Ah, back when he wasn't constantly drunk at his shows and Ori wasn't around to distract him from his performing! It still boggles me why Seven Years Gone, the best song on the album by far apart from the unreleased Forgiveness Street, was only played once during the 2012 run...

As much as he says it was family that caused him to leave the band, I think this was the nail in the coffin. When this album was railroaded by What About Now, it completly took the wind out of the sails of the album and Richie.

I absolutely LOVED the Aftermath of The Lowdown album and tour! Very rock oriented and not too much blues or country sort of vibes. I was not a huge fan of his first couple of albums or his other albums since then. Though I do enjoy Stranger In This Town and Hard Times Come Easy from the early albums. Richie is a great musician, but I feel like other than this album and brief tour he was at his best at Jon's side, in terms of writing and stage presence. I can say that in his final year or so with Bon Jovi he did seem to not always be into his performances. There were moments where it seemed normal but when you get a glance in his direction he doesn't seem seem very into his work so I'm glad that he left the band if he wasn't enjoying being in the band anymore. It sucks to see anyone look miserable.

Great mini tour, saw the Amsterdam show myself. You eluded to it in the description, but why was it so short/last minute? especially compared to the shows with Ori a couple years later which was more of a proper tour, albeit imo not as good. Was it the BJ machine and the WAN tour which restricted him? or the album sales?

Bon Jovi (the band) was not supposed to write and record WAN at the period when they eventually did. After The Circle and the subsequent The Circle tour and Bon Jovi Live tour the band was promised a relatively longer time off. This would have given Sambora enough time to record a new solo album and go on a solo tour. However, Jon cut this break short and called back the band to the studio in 2012. Richie said that WAN was actually finished earlier than AOTL (at least that's what we can read on Wikipedia). It's a fact that Jon wanted to buy the Buffalo Bills at that time, and rumor has it he needed extra cash for the purchase, thus the rush with the new album and the following tour. In order to compensate Sambora, Every Road Leads Home To You was included on WAN and allegedly he was also promised the chance to sing a couple of his songs on the WAN tour concerts. This kinda didn't happen as he only sang I'll Be There For You on selected shows.
