In 2003, I fell in love with the e55. Of course, back then aged 27 I couldn’t either afford nor inusure it. I knew it was all the car I would ever need: fast, family friendly, almost invisible unless being used hard. 16 years later, I finally bought one and will never look back. Mine is a bit ropey and has some issues that still need fixing, but boy does she fly. Hopefully, will never need to sell that one. It’s my daily driver. As a family of four, we even take it on holidays from home to Portugal in the summer - about 1000 miles in a day. It then takes the 45c heat like a champ, never complains or overheats. A real trooper, and very fun to embarrass people in new fast cars with when pullling away from toll booths.

Concrats! I bought my first AMG last month after testing a C55 (S203), C63 (S204) E63S (S212) and I chose a C63S (S205) in blue with designo brown interior. The reliability of the M177 engine and the optional valves exhaust was the reason I bought the newer car. It isn't my daily and will only be used on dry days and holidays with the family. I really likes the W/S204 for its better sound but it was a little to small for me. The W/S203 is also a great cruiser but finding a nice example is really hard and they ask more for a good W203 than a W204 these days. The E63S was also a great car but the twin turbo model lacks reliability as far I could read on the internet. I hope to own a W212 pre-facelift with the M156 engine next to my W205 in the future!

the thing is how you manage to not get broke with all the gas it drinks. I also have a merc (being a 21 yo working for minimum wage) and sometimes i think my C230K is a gas swallower… Maybe my foot is kinda heavy 😅, or it’s just i don’t drive that efficiently

Agree! Oil change every 5k miles or 12 months which ever come 1st, you take care of it, it take care of you. Maintenance always better than repair. You kelp all of your Mb in incredible condition, can you share what product you use for your leather? Cleaner and condition? I keep trying a lot of different branded leather but can’t find a real good one for amg Nappa leather.

Thanks for the video ,,great information..your cars are undoubtably some of the best examples in the world. My 2005 CLK55 AMG has been quite economical to maintain..it has simple braking and suspension systems , and has only needed a new conductor plate in the transmission as far as repairs.. Normal maintenance is cheap when you DIY ,,this has totalled around only $240 this year to change the engine oil , brake fluid and power steering fluid . Two piece Brembo brake rotors are costly , but you generally only do them once and the brakes are awesome , so I think it's worth it.

What would you estimate the total time (hours) spent on doing the diagnose, repair and routine maintenance on those 3 AMGs? Where I live in the US, dealers charge $250 - $275 an hour, good MB independent shops charges $200 - $225 an hour on labor. It is not the part cost but the labor cost that will likely to kill those old AMGs.

Nice cars. I have a 2007 E63 114K daily driver in Virginia, I'm the second owner the car was dealer maintained until 75K, since maintained the past seven years originally by me then by a specialist indie. Over the long term I budget $1 per mile for indie maintenance costs. I agree you can cut that in half by doing self maintenance. The M163 and most other issues are well known at this point, but the car is still $100,000 worth of complex vintage moving parts and the bill will eventually come due. I had the head bolts done at 100K as preventive maintenance, the bottom end is virtually bullet proof (unlike the BMWs) but the top end (dual OHCs) takes some care and feeding. Oh, and that intake is magnesium, plan on a new one eventually if you drive in the wet (ask how I know :) . After careful shopping I passed on a couple of V10 M5s to buy this E63 even though I really wanted the V10 - few of those are even running any more -- I'm planning on keeping the E63 for a while.

Seems its pretty important to DIY as much as possible to keep costs down. I took my 2015 E63S to an indy for B service and it was close to $900. Not terrible considering the car but could be better as you've shown.

Plan to get another car possibly another AMG model to replace the E55 to add to the stable? I don't have the facility or certain things to do some DIY work like a simple oil change. Had a Service A (essentially an oil service) done at a dealer this past summer on my R172 SLK55 at a cost of a tad over $300. It's a lot for an oil change compared to an oil change on my Scion xB (2nd gen) and Honda Insight (1st gen), but I knew what I was getting into owning a performance-tuned car, and it was something that comes with the territory. Rarely do I take my car to a dealer unless it's warranty work or I'm getting a big discount or I bought the car new from there, but I don't know any reputable indie shops especially one that has worked on an SLK55 so the dealer was the best option. I was quite pleased with the service I had from there. I'm a bit ocd about oil level, and the service advisor made sure it wasn't above the max line and the invoice listed all the torque specs including the tightening specs for the oil cooler line. I love details like that. Oh, one reason I wouldn't be able to change my own oil is that I wouldn't be able to get under and drain the external oil cooler or even really know how to do it, so I'm glad I took it to a professional.

Two things. With so few driven miles, almost no repairs are expected. These aren't drivers, these are collections. Further, any account of cost must include a sum lf your labor hours, to be complete. Merely buying parts accounts for a small fraction of the total effort to maintsin. Not very hepful.

Changing the oil that often is overkill.especially if the car is periodically driven. Save that money and put it in other areas. This is not a true representation of what it costs to upkeep this car.

The front struts failed completely on the E55 or was it the orings on the valve block? Because I have the same issue on the front right of my cl55 which droops after a day or two however immediately at start, I can raise the suspension and back to normal height and it doesn't droop while driving.

I had a m157, 2012 e63s with 60k miles, impeccable service history. All of the known issues such as magnets had been addressed. Unfortunately at this age the plastic coolant pipes started to go end of life, and $3k repair bills became the norm. The parts are made to be replaced and not repaired, a failed rubber o-ring necessitated a new radiator, which is a 6 hour job in itself. When I started to get the air suspension malfunction error message, I was happy to get rid of it. No more AMG for me.
@GoldenEagleXTND
@GoldenEagleXTND 11 ай бұрын
Wow, all that failing at 60K is pretty abnormal. Most plastic lines and rubber hoses on W212 M157 go around 80-100K miles along with the turbocoolant lines. But, all these expenses are known and have known intervals based on a plethora of owner knowledge and should have been known by you to begin with. I'd really call into question that service history or the the treatment of the car by the previous owner(s). The MBWorld forums even has a stickied section of all known issues and maintenance to be aware of.
