As a person in recovery i relate to the dark side of this topic. I came to loath social media. It felt very similar to when i was actively in my worst place with alcohol. I hated it but couldn’t stop or moderate. I closed down my accounts and its been one of the best decisions of my life. I ‘think’ again i ponder. I daydream. Im wistful. I feel hollow and am aware. I laugh more. I cry less and when i do its with less anger and strife. We are being used. Turn da shit off. After the constant dopamine rush subsides a more peaceful life is reborn. Again. ❤

You’re a light in this world, Rich. I genuinely needed to hear this and am so grateful to have. I know a lot of listeners in your community suffer from mental health and addiction; as do I. 11 months ago I decided to step away from social media. Only consuming podcasts via KZbin. Mostly yours and a couple others. Social media has really done a number on people. Myself included. Your message here inspired to convey my social media experience into a poem. I hope you see this and from the bottom of my heart I truly appreciate and am grateful for all the love you put into this world. It’s truly and sincerely helped me and continues to do so. Thank you, Rich. 🌎 ❤🙏🏼 I am creation I am destruction I am light I am dark I am addition I am subtraction But most of all I am division I am your hope in the light I am your demon in the dark I am your fix waiting in the wings I am division One goal Proprietary gain with capitalistic pain Why can you see that you already have everything? Because I blind you with wonder, excitement and possibility. Little do you know this little plan was by design. Never put in place to align But to divide and prosper But prosper for who? Not you And not I I stop and wonder why Then I realize This plan was by design Never put in place to align

It's so amazing to me to hear you say how uncomfortable you are speaking into a microphone on your own because A LOT of the reason I listen to your podcast is to hear you speaking and to get your thoughts. You're always so insightful, well-reasoned and so beautifully, beautifully articulate if they could my ears would cry. That's why I was all kinds of ready to not like the new Roll On but it really was so good. Horrifying information because I don't trust humanity. But I still could hear you and Adam and your conversation. And I'm sure I'll listen to this latest offering several times over just because I think what you have to say is worth repeating.

Hi Rich, I started this journey with you based on some very serious chronic health issues that needed some in depth & new perspectives. I found your gut micro biome podcasts and felt so relieved that my problems were reversible with diet, lifestyle changes, exercise & quality sleep. I’ve listened to your other topics as well. So now I’m listening to this special podcast. I know how you feel about this topic since I worry about it everyday. Can we as a human species paint ourselves into a trap based on the communication of ideas? According to the author of Sapiens, this very skill of complex communication was the very catalyst that set into motion our domination of the planet! And now it seems to be the start of our undoing. Fortunately, there are many, many people discovering the bitter taste of information addiction. Fortunately, they resolve to live “real” life rather than “iPhone” life. I’m 65 years old, so I remember the other way to live, the ancient ways ( BC…before computers). Gardening, biking, running, swimming, boating, hiking, walking, picnics, time with pets, times telling stories, times just sitting on a porch reading a paper or a real 📚 book tap into that lost culture. Waving at neighbors walking by on the sidewalk also seems lost since those walking by are staring at phones. The decision to live in the “real” world (fact-based) is, I guess, a new skill that has to be nurtured. This podcast does just that. Thank you Rich. I may need to listen to this podcast monthly to remind myself that there are others like me. With deep appreciation, David in Houston.

Thank you for the gentle reminder to read Sapiens, I bought it two years ago and left it on the shelf. I’m reading the energy codes atm as well as outlive, as these are a calling to evolve more deeply than I’ve done to date, I’ll pop this book on my nightstand to read next. I just turned 50 last week, and like you feel the need to detach from my digital life and remember my youth in how I connected with my environment, others and myself. I was always an outdoors person, runner, swimmer and somehow lost my way. As rich says, it’s time to log off and narrow my evolution only through the right channels. Rich has been a way finder for me these past 5 years and will always be in my small circle of well intentioned humans, who truly wish to do good in this world. Thank you again for the reminder of this book and your validation that what I’m trying to find isn’t lost 🙏🏼

As a follower of your channel for over 5 years now, everything you said ‘feels’ like divine timing, a message from my own future self almost. A welcomed message that will allow me ponder and centre myself during this quieter Easter weekend. I’m at a crossroads, my new career in wellness and health depends on social media, but my consciousness is feeling enormous resistance from it’s nature to isolate myself and others in getting my message out to a wider audience. So it’s my will to find a more wholesome way to merge the two without become the very paradigm you express in our digital behaviours, stealing our attention and real sense of self and expression. I’ve just turned 50 last week, picked up two books (the energy codes and outlive by Peter Attia ) together they are bringing my awareness back to inside, my inner knowing, my wholeness, and self expression without fear or pain. Thank you for stepping out your comfort zone to do this, by example I wish to do more of the same now my eyes are awakening to my own creative expression of who I’ve been hiding, staying small. Your courage is a way finder for so many in this foggy world. I’ll be watching this again and again until I can embody all of it like a prayer to myself. Love you Rich 🙏🏼 and thank you x

IMHO, the best episode you've done. Just pure heart, concern, honesty and compassion for humanity. These things I know about social media through the Social Dilemma doc and the Atlantic article among other things as well as my own struggles with constant scrolling and aversion to boredom. Ugh. It's so hard even when I know how damaging it is. I think the simple mantra of "embrace boredom " will give me a new start. Thanks Rich.

Thank you, Rich. This was such an important and clear message, and not easy to listen to, as facing the truth can be hard sometimes... I feel a little selfish for asking this, but please, would you consider sharing your thoughts in this very format more often, for instance once a month, or bimonthly? Again, thank you for what you do, for not shying away from vulnerability and thank you for saying things as they are. 💯

Proud of you for taking on this project which nettles your sense of aversion to such focused attention. Just audio, I get it. Classy. It can only lead to growth! This is beautifully written and spoken. The first half, technological, the second, spiritual, connecting both of the pieces by underscoring the importance of connection itself.🎉✌️🌱

First, I really like the simplicity and directness of this format. Second, this message is so right on, so needed and so timely. Finally, I really appreciate how well thought out succinctly expressed your podcasts are, regardless of the format. I will revisit this one frequently. Thank you

Thank you Rich and Team, this was a highly impactful sharing. I encourage you to keep pushing through your discomfort zone to continue a deeper dive into your new experiment with monologue format. You have not just been passively interviewing inspiring humans all these years, you have been actively cultivating and accumulating an incredible amount of beneficial wisdom worth crystalizing and sharing. One small improvement to consider would be to make available a one pager of your suggested actionable practices. Bravo!

This was truly wonderful. Thank You for articulating with great accuracy so many thoughts I've had about social media but thought they were just the vagaries of my own experience not a whole social fabric that is tearing apart. Great writing! Loved seeing your words on screen at the same time as hearing your voice. Reading and listening. I love this format and will listen in for more of your "podcasts" here on KZbin! I had just mentioned about that feeling of being marketed to death and being prey to "click funnel email baiting" .Planning on "logging off" and getting back to paper book reading, painting with brush and canvas and most especially hopeful of talking in person with other people and having real conversations!
