This kinda stuff really gets me thinking. Internet is weird. Digital storage is weird. On the one hand, everything you do and say here is recorded and could be there forever. On the other, someone made a famous map that's been popular for like a decade and we don't even know if it's one person or several. its whack

@@MenachemSchmuel Yeah, the internet is weird. Things either stay there forever, or eventually get lost while nobody cares, like a tree falling in the forest where nobody's there to hear it. And by the time we finally care about it it's too late by many years.

Whats funny to me is that over 8 years ago this was the first map that I had ever loaded into in tf2. I downloaded the game and immediately got an invite from a guy that I had recently played through Portal 2's co-op campaign with and accepted it. At first I pick scout since its the first class anyone will see when they first load in, but I remember distinctly that I picked sniper afterwards because I kept getting killed by them and noticed that there were huge sight lines that I could use. I never knew that such a strange map like this had any kind of history to it but its cool to think back to those older days and simpler times.

Great and interesting video man! I actually play DOD on that map sometimes. I think the simplest maps can be the best maps ever imo. Great video dude, hope it gets more views. Orange maps occupy most of my playtime in tf2. My most nostalgic moment while playing on them was a night in which the entire server was talking in the voicechat about tv shows from our childhoods. Before of that there was a guy which was hella drunk that night (actually a wonderful dude, I even “gifted” him a genuine hat a year later) ranting about obscure Argentine soda he saw on a kiosk (the server is located in Argentina btw) and later he tried to stablish the USSR 2 on the server while Russian music was playing in the background. What a fun night that was, the types you stay all night on the screen. Just for these memories along I hold these types of maps that kindly on my heart

cp_Orange was the first map I played on tf2 when I got it as a birthday present in like 2008. I was given $20 for my birthday and begged my dad to take me to Walmart so I could get a game. We went to the Walmart, looked through all the games I could get and settled on Team Fortress 2, when I saw that I wanted it so I could play it with my dad who is also an avid gamer. So I bought the disk of it, rushed home to the family pc, and booted it up. I loaded into the first server that had a decent amount of people and that was cp_Orange. I played for 4 hours straight that day getting absolutely crushed by snipers but still having a blast. I will never forget playing it, it was the peak of my childhood.

Yo, I played probably at least 100 hous on Orange, and that's only x3, x5 or x7. Camping at the top of the tower as engie with some fellow engineers, especially on the original map where there were no other health packs so your team had to protect their engies because they were important for health and ammo was so good. Also I really fondly remember some of the spin off orange maps for their unique and interesting design! Some that modified the original map, like z7 as shown in the video, did so really damn well and made it a properly playable map! Some spin off maps had unqiue set ups with a lot of flank routes and other things. Man, that was fun. Good video, thank you

I played my first hours of Medic on this map, a class I’ve since sunk close to a thousand hours in. Man. I picked up TF2 in freshman year of college when I was struggling to be social and feeling homesick, playing late at night on a barely-working laptop. This map is probably where the seed of my love for the game was planted. Thanks for reminding me how much those memories meant.

CP_Orange is my most of my childhood, First time i booted TF2 up was back in 08 when my brother introduced me to it, he told me to go online and find a CP_Orange server because it was easy to learn the basics of the game on that type of server and since then ive been in love with the game and the map. Now in 2021 i dont play tf2 anymore since ive grown and dont really have the time anymore to play videogames but CP_Orange will forever be in my heart.

One of my favourite memories of CP orange actually happened a few months ago, despite being a long time TF2 player. It was a 100% Critz server and I was duelling a sniper right on the court yard by mid. Half way through the fight I felt like I was being stalked on my flank. That same kind of creeping feeling that you're being followed. I turned to my right and saw a enemy soldier, a good 30 ft away from me, just watching me. We locked eyes for a while, until he started to do the Coffee taunt. His soldier managed to utter only "I love-" before getting totally and thoroughly domed by a Sydney sleeper sniper from across the map. I really got the sense that the soldier was a shy admirer, and was waiting to confess his love to me, only to get killed before he could finish his words. This game never ceases to make me expirience bizarre and unexplainable phenomena.

A 4:3 video in 2021? *AMAZING* Way better than that dumb ultra thin aspect ratio of new phones. Subbed.

Great video! I subbed. As for me, the orange map was "cp_orange_x3_exe". It has mostly fixes for respawn problems: now you can crouchjump into respawn, it has team barriers and respawn class-change mesh fixed. Also the ledges in front of tower are symmetrical, and a bunch of medkits/ammo thrown around. Exe name stands for a small russian clan "ExE" I happened to get in, and even moderated their orange server for a bit. Ahh, good old times.

I wonder how many hours of my teenagehood i spent on the same low gravity, crits only, randomizer Orange server. Players that spawned with sniper rifles were annoying, but that only made it more satisfying when you managed to kill them. Great memories, great game, and great video !

A friend of mine made an edit of Orange with a whole bunch of interesting and wacky additions, most notably an admin box above the orange tower in which were controls for starting a variety of game modes. Saturday nights we'd have lots of regulars as well as new comers tuning in for the fun that was the admins hosting different game modes and great times were had. Those were the good old days of APH; Acid's PlayHouse ✝ 2015 - 2016, friendships lasting, and good times still being had in the community it sprouted.

This is the map that got me into TF2,more than a decade ago. I haven't played it yet, probably since I didn't know that it was an unofficial map back then so I didn't know how to play it. And even though I do know how to play it now,I find the official maps just entertaining enough to "forget" about it.

I used to host 8 servers that played cp_orange_x3_fix, from all crits, to melee only, to randomizer. All your points about the original map are so true, and I tried to fix them with plugins to place ammo packs and to try and prevent rockets etc going into spawn etc. If i had a penny for everytime someone asked me to define "spawn camping", they'd still be running to this day.

From my point of view what makes cp_orange and other maps inspired by it so charming is how it's simplicity makes it feel like a digital world, like some sort of virtual reality where your imagination is the limit. But that's just me though, not sure how many people would agree

Yepp, nostalgia. And my friends at middleschool who I played tf2 with, allways insisted on playing on this map, and I later relised the actual casual valve server were a thing xP But yeah, I had fun with this server too, I'm not going back to it. But it was def. a less caotic place as for a noob that I was back in my youth. I have a neutral feeling towards the map itself, but I will neverforget it and it's earned my nostalgia points. or whatever, hope you enjoyed this read Mr Richter :) PS: Great video ^^

I remmeber going through a phase back in 2014 or so where id look for cp orange maps but with added routes and such, finding really cool cp orange maps with more towers, tunnels, full on border, different spawn, everything, it was such an amazing thing to experience considering how many servers there used to be

Orange and cp 2towers are some of the earliest memories I have of playing tf2, I remember my time there way better than on any official map, partly because I played them more for some reason but it also goes to show how memorable even a crappy map can be.
