Ok hear me out. What if the Undertaker was the medic from a previous respawn. Just like the Hunter and Butcher, the Undertaker is clad in all black and while they aren't directly affecting the timeline, unlike their other counterparts that are somewhat directly affecting the timeline of events. The hunter was mainly active when he was still Sniper. But, he was only on-screen committing any act while still being sniper. When he becomes the Hunter, while yes, does kind of fuck with soldier, he does die when he interacts with the main timeline too much. The Butcher does die when they mess with the main timeline as well. Stalingrad could also be argued in being part of the "black team" and does die like mentioned before. Same with Smoker. The only one who doesn't seemingly die would be the undertaker. My take would be that maybe the black team was originally supposed to guide the mercs down to some sort of goal, yet someone they became corrupt or maybe were overtaken by previous respawn accidents. Another thing too would be that each person on the "Black team" is trying to guide a character. Undertaker with Medic. Stalingrad with Soldier. Butcher with Scout. Yet, maybe they were corrupted and wound up going down the wrong path after a few too many respawns. The whole "it's eternity in there" line is more terrifying too when you think about it. They are put through the respawn machine numerous times, and over time their minds and bodies are altered. Maybe this makes like zero sense but oh well. I'm spit balling because this movie is so interesting and I find more things with each rewatch.
