Here's why I think Beth stayed... One of Beth biggest traits is she's afraid of people leaving her. She's scared of Rick leaving. She's handling the divorce poorly. In the alternate universe where she had the abortion, she was lonely and miserable... Beth may have trouble feeling empathy, but she has no problem feeling loneliness, and she doesn't really have anyone to run away with... I think Beth's a sociopath and Jerry's a worm, and they're both broken and sad inside, and I'm starting to think since they're both so terrible on their own, their codependent relationship is the best option for them. They're starting to look more and more suited to each other... I also can't help but remember Dr Wong saying Rick and Beth use intelligence to justify sickness, which is what I think we're seeing when Rick gives his speech... To me "sick" feels like the right word to describe them...

I don't think Rick's a sociopath, but I think part of him wants to be. He sees caring about people to be stupid and a weakness, but despite himself he does feel an attachment to his family. He's been damaged so much by the life he's led that he just wants to be distant and not care, even though he does. The best description I have heard of Rick is someone said there was "something dead and sad and fucked-up" in him.
@l33tspaniard7 жыл бұрын
BillionSix definitely - remember that he considered his attachment to morty(and likely beth as well) to be toxic. So I believe he desperately wishes he were a sociopath.

A lot of understanding Rick came from what he told Beth. He says the more intelligence and knowledge you gain the more you become less connected to the universe because you learn nothing matters. He’s not evil, he just doesn’t care. Evil requires intent. Would you consider Rick good if he accidentally did things that led to good? His only real evil is how he treats jerry.

Everyone has an evil side to them which can vary in intensity from person to person but everyone’s default is good, or their perception of good which doesn’t vary that much. To let out that evil side is when someone reaches their breaking point, and to get to that everyone needs something’s else but when that happens most people can entirely lose their moral compass leading to a downwards spiral. Which means your evil I’m evil and so is everyone else. Deal with it.

20:00 Rick isn't evil. He just doesn't care about the moral compasses of others in accordance to himself. He does what's best for him in the moment because he knows, ultimately, nothing matters. Why bother yourself with the opinions of others when the inevitable void is just around the corner, so close to the end of your life? The answer is, don't think about it.
@antonbrakhage4905 жыл бұрын
That's Ricks' view. How much of that is the truth, as opposed to self-justification, is open to debate.
@Cbricklyne7 жыл бұрын
Rick is not evil. He's selfish and hedonistic. Evil implies a malicious intent for harmful purposes. It also entails and suggest a moral dimension that doesn't necessarily apply to the world of Rick and Morty (it's hard to apply morality to a universe in which you can kill an alternate version of yourself (or infinite versions of them), and in which you can "replace" your world with another after ruining and destroying your own world) Rick doesn't seek to harm and kill people for malice sake. He does things because he can and he because he wants to. He's a like a child in this respect. Are children "evil" or "good"? He's also pure Id. Yeah, it's not that straightforward or simple when it comes to categorising Rick as "evil" or "good" by our world's standards. Don't forget that in his world there's such a thing as an amalgam of HItler and Abraham Lincoln - Abolf Lincler. Evil or not?
@billcasey34927 жыл бұрын

I subscribed = ). I like your intros are pretty fun. Here are my thoughts about Rick and Beth. I think that Rick loves Beth but ... (more on the 'but' later) he drops some "hints" like he specifically said a "hug" may be dangerous, I think this is because of his power and what he is capable of it means he carries heavy responsibilities and that he is always on his guard and "sentimentality" may actually cause issues which could easily turn into dire consequences (there are many examples like whole worlds mutated and destroyed) and Rick hinted the same thing with Morty when they were detoxified in one episode. Now about Rick and Beth's conversation which was about being honest (although Rick was being characteristically guarded which he does in exactly those situations) Rick said that Beth would finally "relax" after all this honesty ... therefore although it looked like Beth was a clone in the end when she easily said she loves Rick and Rick uncharacteristically yet characteristically replied he loves her too as if this Beth was a clone, but then this could also be the new real Beth who is at peace with herself. This is why the show is so good. Now for 2 secrets (1) Rick self commented that this was "jumping the shark episode" which has very special significance (2) this is the 2nd time Rick said that Beth is not his daughter, the first time he said it in another episode he referred to Beth as "Rick's daughter" not "his daughter" and this feels like he is hinting at a deeper truth in fact he "showed" us a potential false memory but may have been partially true when the original Rick lost his "real" daughter in a bomb explosion. Regarding "evil" I think Rick himself will assert that he is above good and evil thus putting in question the whole concept of evil which is a word usually used for manipulative ends for example in politics every day. Rick surpasses quaint notions such as evil. And because he tries to live truthfully and tries to do everything mindfully I don't believe he is evil just as a war hero may have killed a lot of people yet normally isn't considered evil even if he himself thinks he is. I believe I gave no spoilers here because I only used information from this and past episodes. I think that Rick loves Beth by being honest with her even though he was not entirely truthful as likely he must always be on guard.

Whether or not to consider the characters evil, depends on how much you consider intent to be part of that moral equation or if it's just the result of one's actions. None of them seem to have evil intent, but they don't seem to care much about saving lives either. So it's hard to make a case that someone like Rick, who destroys worlds and even an entire universe (microverse) once, is anything but evil ("I know I'm the devil, but he's *the devil*."). Only on the most literal of utilitarian philosophy, could you maybe argue he's good (he created more life, simply because he has created more microverses than he destroys), but it's a hard sell. Regardless - love all of 'm!

eh? i don't think that jerry's evil. he broke up with kiara using his kids as an excuse expecting her to just except it and be done with him. in jerry's mind, kiara's homicidal response was totally unexpected. he thought her reaction would be reasonable and got punished for it because as he noted "none of this is on purpose [he] does not know what he's doing." jerry's always had that type of luck in the show. he's lazy and selfish like he stated, but if he really had no regard for his kids' lives would he have shown up to pull them out of school and take them some place far away from danger personally despite the fact that they constantly make it clear that they prefer beth over him and possibly barely even like *him* as a person? i like how jerry and beth parrot each other when they constantly proclaim that "I'm not an evil/bad person!" beth does it when she's trying to right a wrong and jerry does it when he confesses that he's not malicious just REALLY out of his depth. this was a beth episode with some jerry on the side and it was nice and a little rick development for dessert? yes.

no beth did not leave, the clues they very purposely set up are the clocks and the time it took to make a clone 3 hours the beth at the end was the original beth because it was still light out if rick had made a clone it would have been dark by the time he was done this was calculated with drive time to the only death chamber in Seattle from the location more or less where rick lives

Rick is the walking embodiment of the things he lives by, good and evil are artificial constructs, whatever you think matters doesn't matter, everything you think is right is wrong. I would argue that Rick's attempts to destroy Morty's emotions are out of a sick form of empathy where he wants to save Morty from long-term emotional pain by bankrupting his emotions early. He is trying to turn Morty into a sociopath to protect him from heartbreak. Also if you notice every time that Morty wants to do something it is often out of emotion and not logic and every time Rick says don't and Morty does it ends poorly for Morty. But in situations where Morty appears to use logic or just doesn't give a fuck, Rick gets out of his way. So a lot of Rick being an asshole is actually Rick protecting Morty from fucking up because Morty thinks with his heart and not his head which leads him to make moral decisions, rather than logical ones, that end up making things worse. I see it like this, most of us would agree that someone who intentionally gets another person addicted to Heroin is evil or a bad person, but what about an addict that offers their new friend a sample? There is an argument that that is a sick person who is being instinctively generous to their fellow human with highly addictive drugs, they can be seen as evil if you think what they're doing is intentional, but if you look through the lens of them being sick and at odds with their own human instincts, and that they think what they offer will help the other person then they go from evil to empathetic. That's how I view Rick, sick beyond himself and unwilling to get the help he needs (Therapy?) and unintentionally projecting his sickness onto Morty out of a misguided attempt to protect Morty from his own emotions.

Hahaaha god i love you guys. No sarcasm at all. Your conversation about Rick being a sociopath is very interesting. Interesting to me because it seems Rick has very much a "ladies man" aspect to his character that makes him attractive as both a father-figure and lover. There's some freudian stuff involved in Beth's relationship with her dad and this episode confirms it. Yes Rick is an exciting person who might make for a good date...but he is a terrible person to be in a relationship with on any level. He's got a smart and sexy personality in spite of the intentionally ugly style with which he is drawn however he is still a quasi-evil bastard a$$hole son-of-a-b&%+*. In the end though you two's conversation seals it for me: all women love bad-boys. Even cartoon bad-boys. 😅😂

I won't be able to do a full un edited reaction on Patreon I already did a test with that with Rick and Morty and the video got taken down/Blocked. It takes one dollar To become a patron. But what I might have to do is just upload the black mirror reactions to youtube a week later. So if you are a Patron you get first access to it. I don't want to upset any subscribers.
