The one line I appreciated most in this episode was when Campbell asked Rick to go on "classic R&M adventures like season 1" and he responds with "I hate that note, what does that even mean?!" I love that because that's my reaction to everyone in the fandom that says that. Seriously, that's not a critique and Rick and Morty have been doing adventures that are just as good or even better than season 1. Doesn't mean there aren't bad episodes, doesn't mean some seasons are better than others, but that doesn't mean Rick and Morty have lost their edge. Rick and Morty is just as good as when it started, if not better!
@brianb-t4v2 жыл бұрын
Totally. For all the classic episodes in S1/2, there are some shitty ones as well. They tend to have 1-2 plot heavy episodes and the rest are just adventures, and that has continued for the most part in the past 5 seasons, and seemingly this season as well.
@cryb0rg2 жыл бұрын
That line made my face cringe into my skull. I almost shut the episode off. The fact that the writers would be confused by something so straight forward... like how in tf are you unable identify the ways in which your own show has evolved? I mean whether or not you like the show better now, hate it or like it just as much, you're delusional if you can't recognize how the show has changed since season 2.
@brianb-t4v2 жыл бұрын
@@cryb0rg what’s the difference then?
@cryb0rg2 жыл бұрын
@@brianb-t4v The sense of humor is entirely different for starters. I put on almost any older episode and find myself consistently laughing beginning to end, even having seen it multiple times, while modern episodes tend to illicit a couple light chuckles at best. Obviously humor is subjective, which is why I'm not saying it's objectively "not funny" now, but man is the difference in comedy night and day when directly comparing the new to the old. Also the sense of wonder the show used to have is gone; all the characters are desensitized which leads to the viewer being desensitized. Every other episode the writers are jacking themselves off -- the worst thing a show or brand can do is endlessly bitterly reference it's criticisms, like jesus I'm here to watch a show, not the writers opinion about my opinion of said show. It was mildly funny the first couple times, but it's gone from giving off cute self awareness to desperate over-indulgence... or insecure hyper-focus? Also, old episodes used to be great at taking an over-the-top insanely complex subject and executing it with a sort of elegant simplicity... nowadays the episodes stuff themselves to the brim with twists and turns and nonsense, it all feels less focused, purposeful and neatly wrapped. It's like they've gone from expertly navigating these high concept sci-fi ideas to throwing rainbow colored shit at the wall so the fans stay stimulated enough. Half the time I feel insulted while watching. Again, people can like whatever they want, not trying to be a hater, but how one can watch a classic episode and a modern episode next to each other and not immediately feel the difference is beyond me. It's like the writers' whole approach and objective for the show has changed, in a way I can't pinpoint of course because I'm not them. Weird that they seemingly can't pinpoint it either... or just won't. Also the show feels nowhere NEAR as off the cuff and easy going as it used to, every line feels meticulously written and performed, which can be a good or bad thing but it's certainly a difference. I could keep going with differences but I just realized I've wasted 20 minutes on a youtube comment nobody gives a shit about and I'm bored now lol. I'll clarify tho that I like some new episodes and dislike others, I'm not a full on hater.
@brianb-t4v2 жыл бұрын
@@cryb0rg that’s fair, I think after S3 when they got the full deal to make 10 seasons the pacing definitely pulled back some. I do think some of the complaints are with how characters have grown or changed, but I’ll admit the humor has changed as well- I just don’t think it’s that far removed from the older seasons. They still address pretty high concept ideas, like the sleep-selves earlier this season, and not everything in S1/2 was super high concept, like Raising Gazorpazorp, which was more of a general parody of teen dramas.

@lukeduran122 жыл бұрын
I think the big thing I don't like about Meta episodes in general is that it pulls the veil back, and I don't really think that's something you can put back. Rick and morty already did struggle having any stakes with how quickly Rick became godlike, and while you can focus on the already depressing nature of nothing meaning with alternate dimensions, adding the meta layer on top of that just start making things even more hollow. Revealing the meta nature of it with a character who equally realizes it is like the "It's all a dream ending", it doesn't technically remove from the story, but theres a now hollow feeling remaining.
@lukeduran122 жыл бұрын
@@boastaboutgames2747 Eh, you still have to be careful about it. As you said, meta stuff isn't supposed to be taken seriously most of the time (never is heavily debatable, as there are many series where the meta is actually a large point of it in a serious manner). But the issue arises when you take it into the context of the show, the whole point is immersion into the world, meta breaks this immersion. As you said, its not supposed to be taken seriously, but when it becomes a large focus of the show, it feels as if we shouldn't take the show itself seriously, or care at all. We lose stakes outside of just mindlessly watch and be entertained.

Filler doesn't mean stuff that wasn't in the original manga (or anything else), it is just how most people describe it. But actually filler means something to prolong time between main plot (if there is main plot). Filler can easily be canon to manga or non canon. Any episodes not related to main plot or current arc plot - fillers. Which brings us to the point that Naruto has many episodes that are non canon to the manga, but not fillers to the main plot, cuz they explain so many important stuff that they could be easily considered more plot related than original canon episodes...

Aaron says something and Calvin just try’s to get Eric onside with opposing him but Calvin never really has a point. And then he waits for Eric to say something smart and jumps on that point and pretends it’s his. Aaron asking him to explain himself before Eric had said anything showed that Calvin didn’t really have a point and was just being pedantic. It’s soured a lot of the BTAS reactions where Calvin is being extremely nit picky and it’s a shame because Calvin has a unique voice and he’s just been agreeing with Eric rather than expressing his thoughts recently. Especially in Star Wars. Whereas Eric and Aaron disagree and discuss healthily.

Aaron can get extremely frustrating a **lot** of the time when he's constantly asking for explanations to things where the whole point is it doesn't need to be explained. TBF it's a wonder Calvin didn't just turn over and smack him for constantly asking about "Tagman". Have you watched them watch any anime? "Why do they look like that?" "It's just the animation style." "Yeah but why do they look like that? Why are they making those faces? Why is his forehead blue?" "Because it's the animation style." "But why? Is it really happening? Why does no one else see it" "Because its the animation style". Aaron needs his explanations of things to fit in a certain box and if it doesn't, he says it's bad. Half the things they watch don't fit into that box. And answering the same questions over and over again can get super frustrating. If your opinions are formed from a flawed basis, your opinions are bad and **should** be shot down off-hand.

@@transientanus Yeah, I'm with Calvin here as well. Aaron can be my favourite when it comes to other stuff, but when he doesn't listen to reason he's unbearable.
@Soshiworld08052 жыл бұрын
Glad I'm not the only one that's noticed it. He also seem bored while watching the shows and movies more often than before. It's like Calvin can't enjoy anything they watch anymore and has to nitpick to death. Has become very annoying to watch

@@brucesimmons5517 Absolutely, I know I was super harsh on Aaron there. I should state for the record that I don't dislike Aaron at all. And honestly, there are a lot of times when he catches onto things or predicts things way before anyone else and some of his breakdowns or theories are so dang on the money it's crazy. Just in this particular situation and in situations like the hypothetical i mentioned above...I absolutely get Calvin.

Oh really this was thing? I thought Calvin was just trying to be funny by disagreeing with Aaron point about tag man.

A lot of people don’t like meta humor. If you do that’s great. But the criticisms are equally valid

I wanted to see the WTF look on their faces when the realize The Simpsons dog is named Santas Little Helper. The cat was Snowball.

It is actually creative, u guys just missed it that tag man was referencing to Pack-Man Game, which eats everything at the end

The fact that you needed to debate it for so long makes Tag Man the most meta thing in the entire episode and the more Aaron doesn't get it the more meta power it has... LOL
@ScorpioSW2 жыл бұрын
Also the Simpsons dog was Santas Little Helper, their cat was named Snowball however they have gone through 5 of them so the current cat is named Snowball V.

The portal pistol the Dinosaurs give Rick is supposed to be superior to Rick’s version but all it can do that Rick’s portal gun can’t is just show the user where the portal goes. The only times Rick didn’t know where the portal went was only when something was wrong with his portal gun or somebody else used the portal gun. Having the ability to see where the portal goes is thus a useless feature to him.

You guys just proved the point of Tag Man. It's disconnected to the episode and has no purpose being there, but there it is.
@Muz__272 жыл бұрын
That was a great episode and I loved the conversation you guys had about it, but the only thing I ended up thinking about after watching this is that you never watched The Simpsons. Do yourself a favor and watch at least up until season 9 even if it's not streamed. those early seasons were pure gold when they had some great writers back then. I've stopped watching it for a while now because it's not what it used to be but those early seasons are what I still grade all cartoon series on and most don't hit that benchmark for me.

I guess the they proved that what they think and said is a bad premise for an episode is actually a bad premise and couldn't carry a full story.... Don't really think that was necessary, but I hope they've gotten it out of their system now.

God dammit, the point of the joke is that there's no reason or connection to his name being tag man. If you have him tag in or playing tag it's no longer just the tag man.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! The episode is aware of itself and the tag is also.

The only reason to the name was that he was IN the episode’s tag. After a whole episode of meta, that shouldn’t require more explanation than that.

I miss when Gustav was a part of Blind Wave reactions. You remember Gustav - he went to school with Aaron and Ric, and went hunting with Calvin. I never really liked him after he criticised Eric for not being able to hear in stereo. I'm just glad he was replaced with Svetlana - the best move you guys ever made.

If you ever get around to it, you should at least watch the first 8 - 10 seasons of the Simpsons. It starts dipping after S8, but I enjoyed it up til 10. I’d absolutely be checking out every reaction.
