Only 3 #1s in the US, but they wrote/produced 13 #1s in the UK between 85 and 90! 12 of them between 87 and 90, 6 in 89 alone!

Here's a little backstory on brother Rick. He was working for that independent record company of Stock, Aitken and Waterman as a Janitor and a Tea boy. But he also did some background singing on some of their songs, so Pete Waterman already knew that in Astley, they had a potential diamond in the rough. So they approached him on doing an album with him, Astley isn't stupid and accepted the offer. During one of the sessions, Waterman saw how Astley was arguing on the phone with his then girlfriend (Who later became his wife) After the conversation was over, Astley hung up the phone, saw Waterman, snickered and said "Never gonna give her up!" and Waterman going "Never gonna give her up...That's a good phrase, I should do something with that." The two following years saw Rick Astley become a super star and his schedule of performing all over the world was grueling but after one such performance Astley took Waterman apart and said "I can't keep this up, this is going to kill me!" So he retired right there and then becoming a stay at home dad. In fact, it was his daughter who alerted him that thanks to the "Rick-roll" meme "Never gonna give you up" was becoming a hit again and that people were going "Whatever happened to Rick Astley?" It meant that a whole new generation was discovering Rick Astley and they wanted to see the man play live. We know the rest of the story, Rick Astley resumed his music career working with amongst others, the Foo Fighters. and Releasing a new album called "50"

So this video sparked a 3hr rabbit hole watching the history of Rickrolling and so many videos from The Foo Fighters to ChiorChiorChior. There is this incredible moment in every performance where Rick hits a groove with whatever style and vibe of whoever he’s performing with and takes everyone with him on this magical journey! It’s fantastic, a have an even bigger respect and love for Mr.Rick Astley than I did before. That smile is everything 😍. You have to check out the Foo Fighters performance and history

He was 21, but he has a baby face. He still doesn't look his age. Check out his single from about 3 years ago: "Angels on my Side", still has an amazing voice

He was actually an Office Clerk who was responsible for making The Tea and Pete Waterman along with his Partners Matthew Stock & Scott Aitken Co Wrote The Song. In the 1980's the Fellows were The UK's Hottest Songwriting Trio. Pete Waterman is still very successful as a Mogul, in fact Simon Cowell used to follow him around like a "Punk" when he wanted his Girlfriend at The Time Sunitta to get a Recording Contract. Her Mother is Miguel Brown who had the Hit So Many Men, So Little Time. In future Years Pete hosted a Music Show called The Hitman and Her, as well as launched the Career of Steps 1996-2001 who were a successful Co Ed Group. In 2002 he bragged that his Group One True Voice were going to be big but it didn't happen, instead their Female Rivals Girls Aloud became successful.

Rick Astley actually started out as a drummer in the band FBI. When the lead singer left, he volunteered to take over, and the rest is history.

Amazing to think he was massive in 87 with this and another 8 top ten hits and over 40 million record sales then just retired from performing as he hated all the intrusion into his personal life , just walked away and lived his life for around 7 years before coming back in 2000 as good as ever , still has that amazing voice also still has those bad dance moves though lol .

We all used to jam to this song this in the 80's. I didn't realize until 10 years ago that he was a skinny white guy! Shocked. Thought he was a tall black dude for the last 30 years. Smh

Rick is still performing, great voice, terrific sense of humour. What we call here in the UK “a good bloke”

Memes aside, Rick Astley is pretty talented. You should check out his acoustic cover of Everlong by the Foo Fighters.
