I wasn't sure what to think of Rick at first when I watched TYSO, but now It's probably my favorite podcast. 18:20 This is Rick not understanding the movie, T2. They invested several minutes of the movie (even some of the better deleted scenes) into John trying to teach the Terminator to smile. The 'deleted' scene was repurposed in Genisys (that awkward smile Arnold does to show he learned). The 'grin' scene with Arnold holding the mini-gun was supposed to be the culmination of that 'arc'...the terminator found something to smile about. But Rick doesn't know that. And also yeah, it might just be a cheap comedic beat that is hard to explain, which is why that 'teaching Terminator to smile' scene was deleted from the theatrical cut. EDIT: Also, another deleted scene ties into that...the scene where they take out the terminator's cpu to release his 'learning blocks' that had been put in place by skynet. Once removed, the terminator could now think freely and learn. So yes...it was A LOT of screen time to get to the part where Arnold holds a mini-gun and grins. But is not in any way simply Arnold making a comedic choice in the moment. Unless he did make that choice and James Cameron went, "#@#@$ Arnold, now we have to shoot 45 minutes of additional footage to explain why you did that!"
