Regarding Turnberry raising greens fee, a good friend of mine did a Scotland golf trip the week before The OPEN this year (unfortunately, I could not accommodate the timing), he played Turnberry on a Thursday, perfect weather day, by himself with a caddie. During the round, his caddie stated he would prefer that they lower the greens fee because he was lucky to caddie three (3) times a week because the tee sheet was not even 1/3 booked. Based on this comment from an employee of the club, I do not see how raising the greens is going to bring more players to the course. Ego will make you do funny things to spite yourself.

Show was still solid this week, thanks lads. On the top 100 courses topic, Pikewood National in Morgantown, WV is an absolute stunner of a course. Very exclusive and small member numbers, very pricy. If you all ever have a chance to play a slept on top 100 course I’d highly recommend it!

It’s interesting to hear about joining a golf club where I am at. Where I live in the US it’s the wealthy middle age people who have a club membership at the nicest resorts and then the clubs I would go play at are $30 odd to play 18 holes and are considered more “public courses”. Very well done without the captain on deck! Thanks for the weekly podcast 😊

Great podcast guys. And Guy! As for being a "hardcore golfer" for being 40 minutes into a golf podcast.? well I haven't pick up a club in 15 years, I used to play when I was married and learned to play when I was in corporateland. I want to get back into the game so am living vicariously via YT golf at the moment! Keep up the content please and I'll eventually get back 9 :)

Golf courses are supply and demand and can charge what they feel people will pay. Sometimes pricing it out of reach of most people will make it more mysterious and want to play more. How much would a football fan pay for final tickets just to see their team? If people want it, they will pay it

Guy I’d say you have no incentive to play more because you are not a member of a golf club and not involved in competition golf. I’d disagree for the average club golfer that you need to practice much - just play competitive golf regularly dealing with pressure. I’ve improved my index to 2.8 from 4.1 and played 9 practice holes this year but played 14 medals and circa 20 matchplay games.

Mate, I think you’re so far off the mark with your Ferrari / Turnberry comment. The way I see your analogy about if you can’t afford the Ferrari … Well surely not being able to afford the Ferrari is the equivalent to getting a membership there?! Go on a track day and you get the experience of driving the Ferrari … surely the £1,000 is now pricing you out of the experience of said Ferrari?! I do get what you mean but buy a car you can afford … come on. You are the biggest golfing KZbin channel there is. This channel is, I assume, for the masses. The message you have the ability to sound out is that it isn’t acceptable and that more should be done to make golf accessible to EVERYONE.

Good job B team! From a very religious golfer: I believe in only very select times does God directly intervene and set the outcome. He's very interested in us; but mostly plays the role of coach, mentor, teacher, cheerleader. You never see a pro golf coach take the club away from a player and hit a shot or kick the ball. God's job is not to do our work; it's to teach us to do our own work. Thus, for the most part, He lets us do it and we get the consequences. Did you practice? Did you assess the lie? Did you pick the right club? Did you square the club face? The real mind-set of a religious person is the realization that there are many things so much more important than a golf score. Did you persevere past bad shots? Were you patient? Did you play with integrity? How did you treat others? Were you grateful your body functions properly? Did you control your temper? Etc. If you did all these things, you won what really mattered. If you won the tournament, icing on the cake. At the final judgement your golf handicap doesn't matter. Therefore, you can be a bit more chill about your playing.

Trump wants the most expensive course in Europe. The rumour is a course in Ireland keeps raising its fees so trump keeps raising turberry to be the most expensive. This is happening all over.A course in East Lothian Scotland have raised the Green fees from £1200 to £1650 because they don’t want members to take up tee times so they can get more money through visiting greens fees because they will take in more money.

I listened to this podcast earlier on Apple Podcasts. Guy seems like he hates watching golf (unless Rory is winning) and can’t help but let everyone know. Odd, considering the people who watch this are usually watching him and others play golf. Also, not sure how many times he’s said he doesn’t get the team concept in LIV while in the same breath saying he didn’t watch much of the tournament. I started watching LIV this year, and it didn’t take long to pick my favorite teams. It’s not the main reason I watch, but it adds an extra dimension to the overall viewing experience, especially if my favorite players aren’t in the running. It was disappointing not to hear some analysis on the tournament considering a five time major winner was battling to the end with a two time major winner. Add in a 51 year old Bland who was in the mix until the last hole, and this was a really fun tournament to watch. Also helped that I was able to watch five hours of golf without having to watch two hours of commercials. If LIV continues to refine the viewing experience, the PGA is going to have to step up its game to make it more watchable.

On the Turnberry cost, I see the point in places like St Andrews putting fees up etc, they are constantly sold out. I just checked i can literally book Turnberry for any time tomorrow from £425, The course is empty. In my opinion it is trying to be more exclusive than it should be, If you go to St Andrews the old course and new course are buzzing with golfers even the courses around them are generally packed full. Turnberry losses over a million a year but of course trump owns it so he just cover that, if they kept their fees down more golfers would pay to play it but to be honest no one is paying £1000 to play it when they can play Prestwick for £300, Turnberry will become the most expensive golf course in the world to play and no one will play it and we will lose it.
