…i was a teen when this came out but this was a head banger…it was as equally popular as “Fire and Desire” but it was played mostly at house Party’s and we slowed dance(dragg if you will) to it …needless to say it made most wanna grab the one they loved and boy oh boy…also in the summer it was played very loudly as most “hot” tracks were back then on Pioneer(Amp) Speakers throughout my South Central neighborhood in Los Angeles…so, you picked it up right it was a love ballad but it was (bad in our lingo back then)🔥🔥🔥…glad the new gen x’s and gen G’s are discovering these artists’ and these at time lost jewels and thanks for taking me back it brought me to tears…🥹♥️🌹

Rick James wrote,arranged and produced all of his albums, Mary Jane Girls, Stone City Band’s albums, Teena Marie’s 1st album, and he actually saved Teena’s career, after Berry Gordy had given her one last chance to come up with a hit, or be drop0ed from Motown ! Wild & Peaceful was written,arranged & produced by Rick James for Teena Marie, and of course “ Sucka For Your Love “ & DeJaVu ( I Been Here Before ) were the 2 stand out hits from her debut album .

I know that this may be a VERY unpopular opinion. Happy is hands down better than Fire & Desire. From the beautiful instrumentation to the passionate vocals, what else do you need? For every Quiet Storm radio show, Fire & Desire reigns supreme. However, Happy has been slept on for far too long. Thanks so much for reacting to my favorite Rick & Teena duet. RIP Rick + Lady Tee🥰🕊

This song wasn't an album release. It was just one of the songs on the album. Fire and Desire grew because of two things: it was a great song, and it was on the album Street Songs. Street Songs was Rick's most successful album, and if Happy was on it instead of Fire and Desire, it probably would have gotten the Black radio airplay that vaulted Fire and Desire into the mainstream.
