Great to have the author of a book to actually talk about it and demonstrate with his thoughts. Great tips like don't think about just playing it as an exercise but as a groove. A question came up about using the metronome that i always use. But, i found another way to approach this, and Rick mentioned a drum machine which i don;'t have. But i transcribe using a free program called MuseScore. So I"ll take, for example, any of these exercises, transcribe in MuseScore. Then loop it, and play. I found this to be beneficial because i hear it on the playback and can pick up the pattern much faster nd lock on. I know i can do this with a metronome, but takes a little longer. Muscescore is a great way to transcribe, playback, internal metronome, looping, etc for the drumset. For that matter , any instrument. Maybe transcribe a rhythm section, and play the drumset along with it... it's endless and FREE. Rick , thankx for all your dedication and teachings. Especially taking this hour from your time and reaching out!!!
