Rick not shooting the Doctor while he was monologuing is not really a blunder. The Doctor could only be killed during regeneration, and he was only warming up to it. If Rick had shot any sooner, the Doctor would only heal from it. Rick simply didn't take into account of the Doctor using his Sonic Screwdriver at the very last second.

I see some people are confused on why Rick didn't just shoot the doctor while he was talking mid regeneration. If Rick had shot The Doctor with his usual laser gun, it would have indeed killed him (hence why he told him to hurry up cause he knows he can only be killed during regeneration) but Rick was unprepared for how violent the regeneration actually was and was caught off guard. wondering what The Doctor was planning when he programmed his sonic screwdriver to cause his portal gun to send a portal at the wall. (I fully believe The Doctor programmed the sonic screwdriver to do this as part of his plan on using Rick's own attack against himself). When Rick found the TARDIS falling apart, with his usual gun destroyed, and realizing there wasn't enough time to grab another, he quickly shot his chest clone thing device at The Doctor; The problem is, this doesn't kill The Doctor the way his usual gun would, as it doesn't have any actual sci-fi laser blast to it. Instead, it simply causes The Doctor to have a massive hole in his chest, which may be severe in any other context, but ultimately is just another ordinary mortal wound which he could easily heal from mid-regeneration like this, as you can see his regeneration energy surrounding his chest after it is ripped opened. Ultimately though, it didn't really matter if The Doctor would have died from this or not, because Rick's persistence on killing him causes him to hit himself with the D-Mat erasing him from existence and everyone's memories. Considering The Doctor Didn't change his appearance though, I assume Rick erasing himself from existence also meant that The Doctor Never needed to regenerate because of him, so it essentially undid the whole fight.

Well they destroyed the tapes on purpose not in malicious intent of actually destroying footage of the show, they had tighter budget in terms of storing footage because they kept it on tapes that they had a limited amount of that when they were running out of tapes for newer series that they need to tape, they would record the newer series on top of the old tapes, wiping off the previous footage on it. Some other tapes were junked simply because they thought there's nothing to keep them for, reruns were very rare at the time so old episodes weren't relevant.

Indeed. Rick's a genius, for sure, but he's also, ultimately, a human. The Doctor's been doing this for over 2000 years longer. In terms of experience, Rick was on the losing end. And, of course, yeah, that. Rick's a big fish in a small pond, the Council literally created the Central Finite Curve to ensure Rick would never end up in a universe where he's not the smartest guy around. Facing a foe who's not just as smart as him, but also, ya know, not drunk off his ass, well...Yeah.

The Sonic Screwdriver not working on wood doesn't mean wood acts like kryptonite and makes the screwdriver not work in its proximity. Unless Rick has some sort of technology that's completely made of wood, the screwdriver should still be able to disable the mechanical bits of anything Rick uses. And even so, the Doctor doesn't rely ENTIRELY on the Sonic Screwdriver to function, he'd have found some way around it if Rick DID have technology made purely of wood

(1) Ricks clone growing inside of his regenerating body ate up the new body... thus, the regeneration only healed his current body instead of making a new one. [10 did something similar to this before to avoid changing] (2) Because Rick was erased from time, Rick and him never fought in the newly made timeline because there WAS no Rick, just the stuff he made left behind mysteriously... and with the Doctors timelord mind being immune to time changes, he still remembers the fight even tho it never happened

I've heard this next match will be a modern remake of the fight, and Ben Singer posted a tweet saying that they'll be compositing Dragon Ball Heroes for Goku and Infinite Frontier for Superman. Note: I would mention that both GVS 1 & 2 were updated on the Death Battle Channel in both titles and description saying they were outdated and inaccurate. So, despite what they said back then, Ben Singer is open on doing a Re-analysis on the matchup, hopefully to fix the missteps they had in both of their previous episodes they did with these too.

43:30 this is pretty obvious, but: the thing about the animations is that they don't determine who would win after looking at the animations; they instead determine who would win and then just come up with an interesting narrative that shows off the majority of the things they discussed beforehand for both characters, with each side appearing alternatively win, and then make the animation resolve with what they determined. So in this moment, they didn't think "Wait what if Rick got lucky and made him regenerate, would he attack him?" but instead thought "We discussed his regeneration in multiple contexts so at some point during this fight we need to make him regenerate, and it has to be at a time that Rick is winning in order to keep tension high."

The regenerating part is when he has the energy coming out of his hands and head. That's the point in which you need to kill him, but the doctor had already used his screwdriver right before that point to disable Rick's weapons. While the doctor was queuing up to regenerate, Rick could have shot him as many times as he want and it wouldn't have done anything and while he was queuing up, that's when the doctor disabled his weapons.

as someone who has never watched doctor who before and loves rick and morty to death, i am conflicted with this episode i'm not UPSET with the outcome since i had a feeling that doctor who was much more OP than rick, which is an incredible feat in of itself, but i'm disappointed that we didn't get to see the full extent of their gadgets mainly the fact that we only saw the De-Mat, the Sonic Screwdriver, TARDIS and a fucking spoon on the Doctor's part while Rick just uses his portal gun, minimal cyborg implants, the Chestburst Clone gun and his standard laser gun (along with a Crow-Tech Sword even though nothing about crow tech was mentioned nor shown in Rick's analysis) its also really wild that they mentioned the Omega Device when only Rick Prime and Evil Morty have the schematics for it while C-137 Rick doesn't and destroyed it the first time it got built

Honestly some if Xeno Goku's feats can't be used as they happened under very specific circumstances. The most they could pheasibly do is give Goku UI, SS4, SS4 Limit Breaker, and Blue Kaioken. That's it. Yeah, Goku is stronger, but in terms of forms, he hasn't gained many more. And if they try to go with giving him Universe Tree SS Blue, then it's a clear cop out to get the Goku fans to stop screaming Goku should win.

​​​@@Cloningmaster55 As much as I can understand Rick is a real tough person to kill, I don't think he has much of a chance against the Time Lords, considering they've been around for centuries to millenia of years before him and it's Alien technology vs human tech. Plus, Rick lost this fight because 1) he let his ego get the best of him. (example: Rick says, "Son of a b*tch. He's ignoring _me_ ?") And 2) he underestimated the Doctor during the final showdown. (Example: The Doctor pulls out the Reality Eraser gun but doesn't grab it or use it, he uses the Sonic to hack Rick's portal gun and has it fire towards his side, and times it perfectly to where he turns his back to have Rick shoot at the portal instead of himself while shouting "Alons-y!". He did all of this to bait Rick to use the Reality Eraser gun and use it against himself.) The Doctor has fought monsters, demons, and truly evil people and has always found a way to come back on top to beat them.

From what I heard the new writers wanted to really make their new doctor memorable, but in turn retconned a ton of lore that even effects the very first doctor as a character because it completely changes their origin and ruined some of the mystery the character still had and replaced with much more underwhelming stuff that can’t be undone as a result.

I think this battle would’ve worked better if the energy pouring out of the Doctor didn’t start till he said “I don’t want to go.” Basically once he’s fully initiated regeneration can he be killed, but that didn’t happen until after The Doctor destroyed Rick’s gun. That entire plot hole would’ve been solved if they just timed it better. Like they could’ve had it start, but then the Doctor suppresses it like he’s done many times before, before hacking the gun and immediately letting it flow.

Yeah, the shooting is a common nitpick here, but, there is a reason: The Doctor is ONLY vulnerable to perma-death once he enters that fiery state you saw, not before and not after. That's why Rick tells the Doctor sarcastically to "hurry up", he's waiting for him to enter a state where he can be perma-killed. Unfortunately for Rick, the Doctor can hold off on regen with sufficient will, in this case, for just long enough as to disable Rick's gun, removing his chance to kill him for good.

@@billyweed835 quite a lot given that the doctor couldn't dodge the first two shots and is wounded. Once he gets a few more shots in (targeting his hands or head preferably) it's over. Can't use the Sonic with no hands, still getting shot, and in a state where he can be perma killed. Plus he could only set up the back portal trick after hacking the Portal gun. Had Rick shot his hands before he pulled out the screwdriver, the second portal would never have been there.

This Death Battle was good of a Death Battle it was, not gonna end up being one of personal top favorite of this season but it was still good. I just wish they gotten a better voice actor/actors for Rick and Morty in this episode, cause there are some really great Rick and Morty impersonator on KZbin who can nail down both voices to a T, here they just sounds like cheap imitations of theirs own self.

Tbh, getting an impressionist feels... ironically enough, just as cheap as your accusation towards the actual VAs. And besides, there's been MANY other episodes that had VAs that weren't chose cause they sound like the original VAs. It's nice if they do, but doing an impression is Verrry different from Voice Acting. Put any impressionist in the same situation, and it would be a lot harder for them to actually record an episode.

It's actually in character for both and makes sense. Rick canonically knows who the doctor is. Which means he also knows his weakness that he can only be killed during regen. This is why he says ''Hurry up'' he wants him to start regenerating so he can kill him. The problem is though, he didn't anticipate doctor using the sonic screwdriver right before starting to regen and therefore lost his chance.

So I was pretty terrified at the next time. I had no idea Death Battle team was actually saying before Rick v Doc dropped that the next time would be very controversial. And tbh, I still am terrified of it. But I'm gonna put my faith in DB Team. Lets remember, Goku v Superman 2 was in season 2 which was 8 years ago. If we're being honest, that is more than enough time for a rematch between two characters. And on another note, they're slightly compositing them with other series I believe. Xeno Goku vs Infinite Superman, I believe he's termed? I know nothing of the specifics with how closer it makes the match, but it'll at least be different, and they said it will be the end of the match up on the show for good. And finally, DB Team has evolved a lot since Season 2. Like, exponentially, anyone can see that. In script writing and animation and have taken a lot of biases away from the actual episode they're making. I'm confident they can make a good episode over probably one of the most toxic match ups of all time. So let's give them a little faith with the next time. Goku v Superman 1 at the time was flooded with hate by salty Dragon Ball fans who knew nothing of versus and couldn't just reasonably take an L over a beautifully made (for the time) animation that kept both characters in character and honorable. Its DB's magnum opus. But Goku v Superman 2 is just an objectively bad episode and I think DB Team also recognizes that and regrets the episode a little. They hype the shit out of Goku and dunk on Superman as characters to soften the blow that Goku still loses but it didn't really help anyone. Both sides lost in that episode because even Superman fans couldn't enjoy how they presented him that time around. So that episode is rightfully disliked. But again, times change and so has DB Team. Let's give them faith and let them cook, they've been in the kitchen this whole season serving us 5 star meals that we honestly don't deserve. No matter the result, we should be respectful, thats what I believe.

The only explanation I have to offer for why Death Battle would be analyzing "Goku vs Superman" again is a combination of new material and changes in how the material is used in research. Similar to what happened with "Mario vs Sonic" and "Link vs Cloud". And to give another example, "Bowser vs Ganondorf" has been accused of relying on "no limits fallacy" to determine the winner. Much like "Goku vs Superman". And since Ganondorf lost when he was brought later, that "no limits fallacy" is, ironically, limited in its application.

For me, it was a bit of a letdown compared to the previous episodes, but still a great episode overall. I think they could have had a bit more fun with the dimensions and time travel stuff, and had Rick use more of his weapons, but overall a great episode. Also when are Morty, Morty Jr, Beth and Summer going to be erased? If Rick was never born, they wouldn't have been either.

Don't know how Rick would know about the wood weakness, though. He's a genius, but he's not psychic. Probably wouldn't stop the Doctor anyway. Also, while I initially assumed that Rick not shooting the Doctor again was just for the sake of a dramatic sequence (as Death Battle animations emphasize coolness over one-to-one recreations of _all_ the specifics of how the fight would play out), but I did see people point out (and agree with said people) that since the Doctor was regenerating after Rick shot him, _just_ shooting him again would do nothing because his body is healing anyway. Rick might have done it with the Xenomorph thing but it doesn't matter since the fight never happened (which is also why he's still the Fourteenth Doctor while talking to Morty). Also, for what it's worth, they're _actually_ re-doing Goku vs. Superman at this point, unlike the prior "rematch", which was just to emphasize a point and which Ben Singer now hates. Ben actually said a _long_ time ago that he was interested in doing a proper rematch, so don't be _too_ surprised.

Nah, Wood, dead bolts, Rick wouldlnt have known to prepare for specifically the Doctor. He'd have no time to plan, or invent, or even teleport to get his things, because the Doctor can follow him through space, AND TIME. Rick would be forced to face the doctor with what he has on person, pr what he can bring on person, and the Doctor can just disable like all of it.
