Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZbin channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

That was incredible. I have 3 sons. Two played high school and college golf. The oldest played about 6 years on the mini tours and actually won twice. They all grew up in the 70s and 80s while Tom Watson was the best golfer on the planet. Mr Watson is considered a deity in my family. It took our family a good three months to get over the disappointing loss to Stewart Cink. None of us to this day have anything kind to say about Mr Cink ( just kidding). Tom’s memory is phenomenal. We saw him play at the Greater Greensboro Open the year he was first Ryder cup captain. After the Friday round he came out of the scorers tent and found my boys because he noticed the intense cheering squad that followed him for 2 days. He spent a good 30 minutes talking with them. They were thrilled. In 1997 my oldest son and I were at the Masters and found Tom on the Third tee waiting for the fairway to clear. Brian was in the front row wearing a Ram hat. Tom saw him and joked that he liked his hat. Brian replied that he liked Tom’s hat also. The crowd laughed. Then Tom looked at my son and said I remember you from Greensboro. Is your dad here. Brian said yes and Tom waved and spoke to me. Great memories from a great man.

There used to be a champions tour major event in Portland, OR every year. My dad worked for Jeld-Wen who was the title sponsor. One year, he got to work a practice round and brought me with him so I could walk around and watch these guys play before the tournament started and it would be hard for me to see. I was probably 10-11 at the time but already loved golf. I decided to follow Tom Watson around for a couple holes, and on the third or fourth, he came over and said “how you doing today young man?” I could barely talk but said “good Mr Watson. “ Then he said he’d seen me following him for a couple holes and asked if I would want to walk with him and his caddie and help him for the next couple. Absolute class act. He made me a fan for life. He didn’t need to do that at all but knew he’d make my day.

Tom Watson’s book “Getting Up and Down from 40 yards and in…” was one of the first instructional books I bought back in the mid-1980s when I got serious about learning the game. He suggested two drills which I did which vastly improved my vision and understanding of shot making around the green. First he suggested going to the range and hitting every iron and wedge starting with 1/4 swings, then progressing to 1/2, 3/4 and full while observing and comparing elevation, carry and roll distances. Then armed with that new encyclopedia of golf knowledge go out and practice at a short game area hitting shots with all the clubs from 40, 30, 20, and 10 yards. It made me realize that in many situations from 40 yards and in there are better odds of keeping the ball on the green and closer to the hole with a partial swing with a mid-iron vs. just reaching for 60° lob wedge. I also a few years ago read his retrospective book “The Timeless Swing” in which he reflects on how his approach to the game evolved. I still play with a PING Pal putter similar to the one he used to win the Open and other majors and try to channel his spirt when I put, telling my playing partners I got the putter when I joined the “Tom Watson Psychic Friends Network” 😂.

That has left me with goosebumps, what a great piece. The best club in a different format and what an absolute gent was Mr Watson. He was legendary. So open and giving, nice just what a guy. Loved it. And yes living legend is right 100%

Thanks SO much, Rick, for giving us this reminder of how much this game can inspire us! Tom is a welcome bit of class amongst all the nonsense that seems to fracture today's commercialized business of golf. He's truly one of the coolest, kindest people we've ever been blessed to see play at the highest level. Thanks again for sharing this with us.

The privilege of playing St. Andrews . . . in reverse . . . with Tom Watson. Wow! What an opportunity! Never forget that day. Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you in this absolutely incredible experience.

Rick your demeanor was perfect the entire time. You are first class. As an aside Mr. Watson visited my unit in Baghdad, Iraq in 2009. He was so engaging with all the troops.

Wow - Rick must be pinching himself after that experience! I'm so glad Rick played well, under some pressure - and doesn't Tom still hit a lovely ball?! Huge respect to Tom, a true legend of the game, and a real class act. 🙂

All the wonderful, elegantly stated comments below about Mr.Tom Watson and Rick are spot on. Rick, I would have had great difficulty just swinging the club as Tom's partner. You both played great. Rick's first shot to the 17th green was awesome. Tom, thanks for sharing your experiences and stories. Fabulous video.

You taught me everything I know bro I appreciate all of you content!!❤️❤️ I was gifted a set of r7s from my father in law in October and I’ve made it to a 15 handicap so far. Thanks for everything bro. I think I may have a chance in a 3-5 years if I continue to play every day.

I upvoted before I even watched it (it's Tom Watson at Saint Andrews). Min Woo Lee, right before right before he became a top-50 golfer was really cool, but this beat that mile.

Tom Watson has always been my favorite, even before I knew the difference between a pitching wedge and a 5 iron. I wasn’t always sure why, but obviously it’s because he’s just a genuinely good guy.

I have watched every shot he hit that I could since I was 8 in 1977 and he has been my favorite until his retirement which was almost as heart breaking as the 2009 Open.
